<em>Spectre</em>'s Smashing Success Belies All the Nay-Saying
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Ever since last year's Sony hack revealed concerns about Spectre's budget, screenplay and purportedly future Bond casting, the follow-up to Skyfall, the 50th anniversary Bond film and biggest British film in history, has been a marked movie. Doubts about its late-starting production, some edgy remarks about the role from star Daniel Craig, and a surprising round of some slagging reviews preceded its November 6th North American launch. (It opened in the UK and some other nations a week earlier.) But surveys of actual film-going audiences gave high ratings to the film -- which, on balance, is terrific though not as good as Skyfall -- and Spectre has proved to be another huge hit, as well as a very entertaining and satisfying film experience. Coming out of Thanksgiving weekend, Spectre has taken in $750 million at the box office worldwide, easily moving it into profit no matter which estimate of the costs of making and marketing the film is correct. Since Spectre will continue to ...

'Momentum' review: A big chase that goes nowhere
Chicago Times - over 1 year
There's a whole lot of hullabaloo over very little in the very generic action-thriller "Momentum" starring former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko. As is typical for almost any film in this genre, there's happens to be a wee little thing that a lot of very violent people are fighting over — in this case...

Movie Review: The Water Diviner... Russell Crowe Should Crow About
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
A tender, soulful Russell Crowe makes The Water Diviner work. Crowe as a farmer who has lost his wife and three sons gives a masterful performance. Russell Crowe not only stars in this epic, but has directed The Water Diviner and proves his Oscar -winning talent for best actor needs no direction. Instead of seeing New Zealand born-Australian bred Crowe flex his pecks as he did in his early days as The Gladiator we see him portray the gentle farmer, Connor, who has an uncanny gift to locate water in the driest parts of the Australian Outback. Connor is a tortured man who mourns his missing three sons who fought in the Ottoman Empire during the Battle of Gallipoli in 1914. Connor had promised his wife to bury their sons next to her and so he sets out on a journey to Turkey to find their bones and remains. The filming of Istanbul and the Turkish countryside is spectacular as is the authenticity of the turn of the century sets and period costumes. Dark sepia tones dominate the f ...

The Fashion Crowd Has The Best Accessories Of The Week
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Though Fashion month doesn't officially start until February, Paris Haute Couture Week is already going on and there is some pretty amazing street style happening -- if anyone knows how to accessorize, it's the fashion crowd. In the past couple of days we've seen pastel bags, bright statement jewelry and drool-worthy footwear. We're definitely drawing inspiration from our favorite editors and stylists when we go out tonight! Miroslava Duma's Louis Vuitton bag This all black look is far from boring. Her thigh-high boots and feathered purse are making this an outfit to remember. (Okay, and maybe her sheer shirt, too). Anna Dello Russo's Chanel boots Though Anna's other accessories are bright and attention-grabbing, it's her cap-toe boots that are stealing our hearts. They blend into her coat seamlessly and make this one cohesive ensemble. Sofia Guellaty's Poupée Couture bag The senior editor of Style.com Arabia obviously knows a things or two about getting dressed ...

Actresses Testing To Play Wonder Woman In Superman Sequel?
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Superman and Batman are already facing off in the sequel to "Man of Steel," but will Wonder Woman join them? That has been the speculation since the summertime, when Warner Bros. announced that Batman would appear opposite Superman in the 2015 feature as a prelude to a possible Justice League film. Now, according to Variety, three actresses have potentially auditioned to play the Amazonian warrior princess in "Man of Steel 2." Or maybe not. The trade reports that the actresses -- Gal Gadot ("Fast and Furious 6"), Elodie Yung ("G.I. Joe: Retaliation") and Olga Kurylenko ("To The Wonder") -- tested for the female lead of the film, which may be Wonder Woman a.k.a. Diana Prince. (Kurylenko's involvement was first reported by Schmoes Know earlier this week.) Not on that list is "Thor: The Dark World" star Jamie Alexander, though many had her pegged as a possible Wonder Woman after comments she made during a comic book event last week. Alexander said she had talked with DC Comics, the bra ...

Props, Kate Hudson
Huffington Post - over 3 years
This week's best-dressed celebrities experimented with lots of texture and detail. Kate Hudson stunned in an embellished Balmain number, while Olga Kurylenko spiced up an otherwise neutral dress with some intricate detailing. Though there were many stars who hit it out of the park this week, Sonam Kapoor stole the show in a stunning Gucci dress. The teal color was perfection against her skin tone, while a belt helped to give her drool-worthy curves. Check out our picks, and let us know if you agree! Kate Hudson in Balmain What makes this look so successful is the expert proportions. The chunky embellishments weren't too heavy because of Hudson's exposed skin, and though the hemline was exceedingly short, it was well balanced-out by her conservative top. Kiernan Shipka in RED Valentino If only all 13-year-olds were this well-dressed! Shipka is turning heads once again in a cute, textured white dress and a pair of trendy metallic heels. 'Magic City' Gets 'Darker, Crazier And More Vicious'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
"Magic City" Season 2 premieres Friday, June 14 (9 p.m. ET on Starz), and Jeffrey Dean Morgan promises that the new year brings a story that's "darker, crazier and more vicious" than anything we saw last season (which featured blackmail, murder and voyeuristic sex acts on a weekly basis). Plus, Season 2 boasts Oscar nominee James Caan returning to his "Godfather" roots as a Chicago mobster whom Morgan simply describes as "a scary dude." So what lengths will Ike Evans (Morgan) go to in order to rid his Miramar Playa Hotel of the mob and Ben “The Butcher” Diamond (Danny Huston)? And will his long-shot gamble tear the Evans family apart? Find out what Morgan told HuffPost TV to expect from "Magic City" Season 2 below. Last time we saw Ike, he was in jail for murder, with State Attorney Jack Klein (Matt Ross) determined to throw away the key. Where does the beginning of Season 2 find him? I'm guessing the whole season isn't set with Ike in jail ... [Laughs.] No, no -- we ha ...

Emma Gray: Why Women In Hollywood Aren't Allowed To Age
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Last week, Vulture confirmed what we already knew: as male actors age, their on-screen female love interests do not. While stars like Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson and George Clooney climb through their 40s, 50s and 60s, they keep being paired with female co-stars under 35. Kyle Buchanan of Vulture explained the results of their data analysis: As leading men age, their love interests stay the same, and even the oldest men on our list have had few romantic pairings with a woman their own age (or even one out of her mid-thirties). If our actor was sharing the screen with an A-lister of commensurate star power like Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie, the age difference would drop somewhat, but in movies that relied solely on our guy's big name, the lesser-known love interests would nearly always be decades younger. So essentially, while actresses like 45-year-old Julia Roberts are relegated to making TV movies and playing Wicked Queens terrified of aging, her ...
