Pompeii: Romance, Adventure, Natural Disaster
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Director Paul W.S. Anderson and Producer Jeremy Bolt deliver a stunning 3D production in their latest movie entitled Pompeii. This is an epic movie that has everything: Visually breathtaking, a touching love story, adrenalizing gladiator combat with historical details that are unmatched. Anderson's outstanding recreation of one of the ancient world's most compelling tragedies. On August 24, 79 AD the city of Pompeii, an exquisite international resort on Italy's Bay of Naples, was buried by the colossal eruption of Mount Vesuvius and its deadly and inescapable pyroclastic flow. Within 24 hours this city and its inhabitants were annihilated in one of the most ferocious natural disasters in history. "This is not a documentary, but it is firmly grounded in reality while also being exciting, exhilarating and highly emotional," said Producer Jeremy Bolt. 'Spy Hunter' Might Finally, Finally Get Made
MTV News - about 4 years
Is the long-anticipated "Spy Hunter" video game adaptation finally going to move into development? It seems like after virtually everyone in Hollywood has a hand in the movie, it's going to be moving forward again. Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is moving "full speed" on the flick now that the studio has signed Carter Blanchard to write the script. The good news is that Ruben Fleischer is still slated to direct this flick. He just helmed "Gangster Squad" for Warner Bros., and it seems like this could be the next project on his slate. Fingers crossed he sticks with this, since "Spy Hunter" definitely doesn't need another director leaving it in the dust. "Spy Hunter's" story started back in 2003 when Universal Pictures picked up the rights to the 1983 arcade game. Dwayne Johnson was originally supposed to star, but Universal spent a while hiring writers to try to pen the project. John Woo was finally brought on to direct it in 2004, but Universal kept swapping screenw ...

New Game of Thrones Season 3 Poster As Unforgiving As Stone
Boom Tron - over 4 years
Boom! March 2013 is a little over four months away, but you don’t have to wait for today’s teaser poster reveal for the next addictive season of Game of Thrones on HBO. You can see it now. The art work is cold, dark and made of stone, but it gets its point across. Dragons, kings and wildlings return on 03.31.13. The repetition of the number three is also very fitting. It is, after all, season three that we’re waiting on pins and needles for. I like the swords worked into the image. If it revealed more than just a release date, the image wouldn’t look bad on a Game of Thrones sweatshirt. The new season promises to delve into the same goings on from the first half of the novel, “A Storm of Swords”. That was the third book in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series. In related news, I discovered that star Kit Harington may be getting his disaster on in a Mt. Vesuvius themed movie, which would be a lot like Titanic in that there would be a love story unfolding as the v ...

Milla Jovovich first stepped into the boots of the zombie-fighting heroine Alice a decade ago, not knowing that the "Resident Evil" role would help cement her place among the queens of sci-fi. Anderson, who wrote all five films in the franchise and directed three of them, including "Resident Evil: Retribution," which opened last weekend. Lucky for both of them, Jovovich isn't ready to break up with Alice.

All You Know is a Lie in This "Resident Evil: Retribution" Trailer
MTV News - over 4 years
Over the weekend on the MTV Movies Blog, we got a look at the new, full trailer for Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: Retribution. Anderson's second 3D entry promises to be the last film in the series which maintains only the most tenuous links to the games and whose sequels are nonetheless some of the more anticipated things in my fall movie watching schedule. More details about Alice's adventures in imaginationland after the jump. Poking at your eyes September 14th in 3D, Retribution sees series heroine and former Umbrella employee Alice learning that the her increasingly disjointed misadventures and scrapes with the mutating zombie horde in the previous four movies may have been simply a simulation, somehow in aid to the nefarious aims of her former bio-tech bosses. Making their debut this time around are Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong, along with the return of pretty much every major character that's graced the screen since the series' live-action debut. RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION Teaser Trailer Info; Plus a Message From Director Paul W.S. Anderson
Collider - about 5 years
On the heels of yesterday's official synopsis for writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil: Retribution, we've found out when you'll be able to see the first footage from the movie.  According to the studio, the teaser trailer premieres Thursday, January 19 at 10am PST and it's also going to play in front of Underworld: Awakening starting January 20 in theaters.  With Screen Gems producing both franchises, it's a natural fit. In addition, earlier today I was able to ask Anderson how the shoot went and how it compares to the previous movies.  His answer after the jump. Here's what Anderson emailed me tonight: Shoot went great.  Wrapped on Christmas Eve, but we got it all done.  Technically and physically it was the hardest RE shoot so far.  Complex VFX and extreme action combined with worldwide locations - Moscow, New York, Washington DC, Toronto and of course Raccoon City.  Really trying to push the envelope with this one and make the first truly epic undead movie ...

After completing Alien vs. Predator, Anderson resumed work on his planned Death Race 2000 remake, which was released as simply Death Race in 2008.
More Details Hide Details Two straight-to-video prequels were made, Death Race 2 (2010) and Death Race 3: Inferno (2013), which Anderson wrote but did not direct but only executive produced and bridges the gap between the first prequel and the original film.
After the poor performance of both Event Horizon and Soldier, Anderson was forced to think smaller. His planned remake of the cult film Death Race 2000 was put on hold, and he set about writing and directed a TV movie, The Sight, in 2000.
More Details Hide Details It was a minor success, and Anderson returned to cinema screens in 2002 when he wrote and directed an adaptation of the survival horror video game series Resident Evil. At that point he began to credit himself as "Paul W. S. Anderson", to avoid confusion with the American director Paul Thomas Anderson. In comparison to his earlier movies, Resident Evil was produced on a moderate budget of $33,000,000 and became a commercial success in cinemas and on DVD with $102,441,078 at the box office. Anderson then wrote, but did not direct, the sequels Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction, both of which were commercial successes. Anderson's next project was the much-anticipated Alien vs. Predator, a concept popularised by a series of Dark Horse Comics and hinted at in Predator 2. A movie version had been stuck in development hell for several years despite the franchise crossing into every other form of media, from books to comics to video games. The film was finally released in August 2004, grossing $172,544,654 internationally on a budget of $60 million, but received mostly negative reviews. Screenwriter Peter Briggs, who had penned the very first Alien vs. Predator screenplay, disputed some of Anderson's comments about the production in an online interview, saying Anderson's claim that Briggs' original screenplay was "locked down" was incorrect, and that many elements of Anderson's screenplay were suspiciously similar.
  • TWENTIES
  • 1995
    Age 29
After this, he directed the 1995 video game adaptation Mortal Kombat.
More Details Hide Details While prior video game movies, like Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter, had been all-out disasters, Mortal Kombat was well received by fans and some critics. He declined to direct the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, which was not well received by critics or fans. Anderson was asked to direct a third film, Mortal Kombat: Devastation, but declined again because he was too busy filming Resident Evil. The success of Mortal Kombat gave Anderson free rein to choose his next project, Soldier, written by Blade Runner screenwriter David Webb Peoples. Intended as a "sidequel" to Blade Runner, the movie was set in the same universe (but not the same planet), and contained numerous references to the earlier film. Kurt Russell was attached to star, but was unavailable at the time, which delayed the production. In the meantime, Anderson made the science fiction horror film Event Horizon. It was poorly received at the box office, and Anderson blamed the failure on studio-enforced cuts. While not a box-office success, the film gained a small cult following. Soldier was eventually completed and released in 1998, but was a disaster both commercially and critically.
