David "The Edge" Evans - who continues to have problems with his Malibu mansions plan - takes a stroll down Venice's Abbot Kinney. The California Coastal Commission rejected a proposal 8-4 by the U2 guitarist to build five mansions on a ridge above Mailbu. Peter Douglas, the agency's director, was quoted in the LA Times saying; "In 38 years of this commission's exsistence, this is one of the worst projects that I've seen in terms of environmental devastation". "It's a contradiction in terms - you can't be serious about being an environmentalist and pick this location". The Edge has been trying to win permits to build in the Sweetwater Mesa area since 2006.
