Paget Brewster to Follow Up Criminal Minds with SVU
Boom Tron - over 4 years
Having already left Criminal Minds for greener pastures – twice, by the way – I find myself more than a little surprised Paget Brewster’s first gig after leaving the CBS series will be with Law & Order: SVU. I mean, why leave a popular crime procedural with the hopes of branching out and trying new things only to end up working on yet another crime procedural? I know it’s not a permanent role, but couldn’t Brewster find something a little bit better? One could argue this is a nice, soft transition for her before she tries something really different, but I don’t buy it. The first time she left Criminal Minds it was due to money costs, and it seemed like Brewster was ready to really branch out and she even did a TV movie, but she was pulled back in. Now that she’s gone for good this time, she had expressed a desire to work in comedy, an obvious departure from Criminal Minds. SVU doesn’t seem quite like what she had in mind. Maybe it’s harder to move on than she thought it would b ...

[H]ouse… I’ll miss you…” Odette tweeted earlier in the week. After eight seasons on the air, House creators announced the series ending earlier this year. TV Review: House 8.17, ‘We Need the Eggs’
Obsessed with Film - What Cultur - almost 5 years
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars (WARNING: Significant spoilers follow!) This was the first episode of House where I truly felt like the end was near. There’s only a few more episodes left, and with this story it feels like we’re beginning to enter the endgame. The medical case this week centers on a patient who is admitted after crying blood. So, yeah, if he could figure out how to make pills that cause that, he could make a lot of money from the emo crowd. Anyhow, as the team are going through the usual diagnostic process, they discover that the patient has a sex doll that he’s in a “relationship” with. The doll is one of those really expensive ones that many guys wish they can afford, but cannot. Trust me, they’re quite pricey. Beyond a reviewer’s salary, at any rate. Moving on! The team begins to think that the doll might have some sort of bacterial contamination, which given what the patient uses her for, isn’t unlikely. Things get really odd when they discover what appears to ...

TV Review: House 8.16, “Gut Check”
Obsessed with Film - What Cultur - almost 5 years
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars (WARNING: Significant spoilers follow) So last week, my DVR effed up and I didn’t get to see House. Now I’ve seen last week’s episode, and I’m reviewing it today. Look for this week’s episode to be reviewed tomorrow. I’ll say this for “Gut Check”: at least now I know why Andrew Sullivan spent so much time last week discussing fighting in hockey. I’m a fan of hockey (go, Coyotes!), and enjoy a good game, but I really, really hate the fighting and I wish it would go away. Fans of fighting, you have boxing, wrestling, ultimate fighting and a slew of other things. Let the rest of us have hockey. I mention this because this episode centers on a minor league hockey player who is an “enforcer”. It’s his job to go out and beat the crap out of other players so that the smaller players can do what they do and score goals. We see him get into a little fight with someone and then start coughing up blood. This leads to the usual series of mixed, inaccurate diagn ...

HOUSE Finale Tease with Hugh Laurie
Boom Tron - almost 5 years
Hugh Laurie spills the beans on the House finale guest stars You know something special is about to go down when Hugh Laurie appears on camera to talk directly to his fans about the final episode of House and the near imminent end to the show’s eight-season run. Just to be clear, the video below features Laurie as himself, not the grumpy, medical genius he’s famous for portraying. You can immediately tell he’s not acting because you can hear his delightful English accent. I could listen to that voice all day. Unfortunately, the video is short and mostly to the point: reminding us that House is ending and sooner or later we are going to have to say goodbye, but not before creating some memories of all the good times we’ve had with the show. Laurie explains they are currently filming the penultimate episode and people on set have begun taking things as keepsakes (cue Peter Jacobson creeping into the background to steal some set decoration). It’s a little cheeky, but there’s a point ...
