A Longer Conversation With Actor Dan Amboyer of TV Land's 'Younger' -- Part II
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Dan Amboyer of Younger after a night filming an intense make out scene with Hilary Duff. Dan Amboyer's Twitter and Instagram: @danamboyer Dan Amboyer is making my head spin. I already erased three introductions that weren't fit for readers of all ages. Dan loves to talk ... and talk ... and laugh, then talk some more. Oh for crying out loud -- I bet you already scrolled down to see the shirtless selfie! Please see Part I of my conversation with Dan! I mean it! READ IT! Thank you. What's the best music concert you've ever been to? Last night I got the best impromptu concert. I was staying solo at a boutique hotel in West Hollywood. After a long day, I came back to the hotel with some late night Argentinian takeout food. I was walking through the lobby, and there was this group of three musicians passing a guitar around playing and singing for just each other. No one else around. I was curious, so I settled into an armchair in the corner, trying extremely hard to look ...

First Nighter: John Pollono's 'Lost Girls' With Piper Perabo; Taylor Mac's 'Hir' With Kristine Nielsen
Huffington Post - over 1 year
In contemporary writing for the theater, it can sometimes seem as if there's an undeclared competition to determine which playwright can produce the most dysfunctional American family play out of all the dysfunctional American family plays going. The first of this week's competing entries is John Pollono's Lost Girls, at the Lucille Lortel, in which the down-to-her-last-nerve Maggie (Piper Perabo) prepares to leave for work in a Manchester, New Hampshire snowstorm and discovers her car is missing. Calling on ex-husband Lou (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), a cop, to help locate the missing automobile, she realizes her daughter is also missing, and the conclusion to which she and mom Linda (Tasha Lawrence) leap is that the girl has been kidnapped. Every so often interrupting the frenzy, a wall in Richard Hoover's rendering of the Maggie-Linda home pivots to reveal a motel room in which a girl (Lizzy DeClement) and a boy (Josh Green). Audience members have every right to assume they're the m ...

The Face of the Syrian Refugee
Huffington Post - over 1 year
This article is the second in a series written by Piper Perabo in partnership with WhoSay and the IRC about her experience with Syrian refugees in Greece. Did you know that Albert Einstein came to the United States as a refugee? That's right -- one of the world's most recognizable geniuses was a refugee fleeing persecution from Nazi Germany. There are two major disconnects in the conversation surrounding today's refugee crisis. First of all, I've heard people, including respected journalists, refer to the situation in the Middle East and Europe as a "migrant crisis." Let's set the record straight: Migrants are people who make a conscious decision to leave their countries to seek a better life elsewhere -- to find work, a better education, or higher standard of living. Refugees are forced to leave their homes because of conflict and are therefore protected under international laws augmented after World War II. The second disconnect is that people with wildly overblown fear ...

Taking on Hong Kong
Huffington Post - over 3 years
We've been looking forward to it all year. Episodes 15 and 16 of the wild Season 4 of Covert Affairs are being shot in -- Hong Kong. There'll be suspense, intrigue, love, betrayal, fights, foot chases, car chases, boat chases. There'll be blood, sweat and tears (and that's just the shoot). DAY 1. It's 6 a.m. in Hong Kong (or maybe it's 6 p.m. -- my body can't tell). The sun is pushing through the heavy mist (or smog). Cameras are being built. Cast and Crew are gathering in the street outside the infamous, breathtakingly distressed I-Pheng Apartments. We eschew the table of Mickey D's for the table of noodles, tea eggs and milk-tea (high-octane and tasty as hell) and then we pray on a beautiful altar with incense and fruit and flowers that has been set in a stunning alleyway. We pray for safety. We pray for peace. We pray for fun. And on this day, we pray that the crew of Transformers 4 hasn't taken over our rooftop. And so, our journey begins. For two weeks we make our way throu ...
