Ellen Says Goodbye To Obama On His Last Day As President And Now We're Sobbing
Huffington Post - about 1 month
President Barack Obama ― say that as many times as you can today before you have to put former in front of it ― was a frequent guest on talk shows throughout his time in office, but he always had a special affinity for Ellen DeGeneres.  To pay a final tribute to the man who helped make her marriage to now-wife Portia de Rossi legal, Ellen dedicated her show to Obama on Thursday with a look back at the time she spent with him and first lady Michelle Obama over the past eight years.  Although he only appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” twice, once when he was just starting his run for president and another time for a sit-down with DeGeneres in 2016, there’s always been clear respect between the two. In November, Obama awarded the comedian the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her advocacy in the LGBT community and ability to make “you laugh about something, rather than at someone.” Of course, it wasn’t all tears and schmaltz from the talk show host. In typi ...

Beyoncé Game, Set, Slayed Wimbledon In White To Cheer On Serena Williams
Huffington Post - 8 months
In the grand tradition of Beyoncé distracting everybody on the sidelines of sporting events, Queen Bey attended the Wimbledon women’s singles championship match on Saturday with husband Jay Z in tow to support Serena Williams.  The two were spotted seated behind Williams’ mother in the stands on day 12 of the tournament at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Wearing coordinated white ensembles, Bey paired her lacy Self Portrait frock with dark circular glasses and a braided ponytail, while Jay opted for a classic white tee and black baseball cap.  Williams went on to win the match against Germany’s Angelique Kerber, securing her seventh Wimbledon win and 22nd Grand Slam singles title, a feat matched by only one other woman in the history of the sport. Card-carrying BeyHive members will also, of course, remember that Williams made a cameo in Beyoncé’s music video for “Sorry,” where she twerked in a black leotard as the singer watched. “I’ve known Bey ...

Tony Hale Teases A More Bluth-Centric Season Of 'Arrested Development'
The Huffington Post - about 1 year
Heeeeeeey, brother. Beloved by many but watched by few, "Arrested Development" was resurrected by Netflix in 2013, seven years after Fox pulled the plug on the criminally low-rated sitcom. Where were you then, America?! But the fourth season of the cult series -- the first on the streaming service -- provoked a mixed response, due largely to its frustrating narrative structure. Each episode centered around a single character, severely decreasing the amount of big family scenes, which remain some of the strongest in the series' history. (The chicken dance, anyone?) We sat down recently with actor Tony Hale, who plays Byron "Buster" Bluth, the baby of the Bluth family, to discuss what's in store for the series fifth season, his all-time favorite Buster scene and how the Bluths will be more united than ever.   Once described as "odd and alienating" in our all-time favorite episode, "Public Relations," Buster quickly made his mark, participating in some of the series' most me ...

Scandal Season 4 Finale Review: Where the Mission Ends
Yahoo News - almost 2 years
Scandal S04E22: "You Can't Take Command" Scandal is the kind of show where there are always so many things going on that it's hard to really stop and take stock of the impact of any individual mind-blowing twist or shocking betrayal. We're nearly 70 episodes into this story and sometimes it feels like things that happened three weeks ago barely matter, let alone plot points from Season 1 or 2. That's why I can watch episodes like "You Can't Take Command," or many of the episodes in this much-improved fourth season, and enjoy them quite a bit in the context of an hour-long viewing experience. But the long-term implications of any of this? Meh. To Scandal's credit, the back half of Season 4 has been somewhat streamlined—particularly in comparison to last spring's messiness—and the core feud between Olivia and Rowan has been unsurprisingly wonderful at the center of it all. This is a show full of fun and/or good performances, but Kerry Washington and Joe Morton are simply the best of the ...
