10 Valentine's Day Gifts and Gadgets to Score With
Huffington Post - about 3 years
The pressure's not on just yet. But, this Valentine's Day, we'd all probably do well to avoid the last minute gifts. Because, if we're being honest, those don't fool anybody. Of course, starting earlier doesn't make shopping for the perfect gift for your favorite person any easier. There are tons of gifts out there to choose from, and you have to deal with the fear that you missed out on a hint or two that they've dropped in the past couple of weeks. It's a dilemma millions are well acquainted with. Fortunately, we're here to help you separate the wheat from the chaff, and get right down to the great gifts that are sure to get smiles (and maybe a little something else) this Valentine's Day. Teleflora Flowers Hey, no need to overthink things. Sometimes, a bouquet of flowers really is all you need to make Valentine's Day go off without a hitch. Some people are into the classic, traditional gestures, and nothing is more classic or traditional than a dozen fresh roses. Teleflora ha ...

Joss Whedon's 'Much Ado' Gets June 2013 Release Date
MTV News - about 4 years
by Hannah Soo Park If you’re expecting Josh Whedon’s next project to be a spectacle like "The Avengers" or "The Cabin in the Woods,” you might be a little surprised to learn that the writer-director’s upcoming movie is actually a seemingly subdued modern-day take on Shakespeare’s comedy “Much Ado About Nothing.” And now, the indie Shakespeare adaptation has an official release date. Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions announced that the film, which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, will land in theaters on June 7, 2013. It may have a script derived from Shakespeare’s original text, but don’t expect stuffy period costumes—this interpretation features a contemporary spin on the classic tale (it is Whedon, after all). With his wife in the producer’s chair, the writer-director shot the film at his Santa Monica home during his free time off from filming "The Avengers." And get this: the cast includes a handful of Whedon-alums, including Amy Acker, Alex ...

For the First Time in 10 Years, Portland Might Get More Taxis
The Portland Mercury - over 4 years
Alex Chiu Yesterday, the city’s transportation board did two things it hasn't done in over a decade: Recommend city council approve the creation of a new cab company and allow more taxis to work in the city. The new company is called Union Cab, a would-be worker-owned co-operative. There are some strong arguments for why Portland should allow more taxis to operate but Union Cab and the new taxis permits it needs are at the center of controversy that seems to be dividing Portland’s cabbies along ideological and ethnic lines. Portland’s Private for Hire Transportation Board—which is made up mostly of members of the city’s transportation industry—voted yesterday on whether to add 132 new taxi permits to the 382 that already operate in Portland. The new permits included 82 for three existing Portland cab companies and 50 for the newbie Union Cab. It also included a series of new and potentially far-reaching reforms designed to clean up the poor working conditi ...

How 'Dr. Horrible' Became A Phenomenon; Plus Sequel Scoop From The Creators
Huffington Post - over 4 years
There's quite a bit of good news for fans of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." Not only is The CW airing the superhero musical starring Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day on Tues., Oct. 9 at 9 p.m. ET, marking its TV debut, the co-creators of the 2008 Internet smash said the second edition of "Dr. Horrible" will very likely come out next year. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen co-created "Dr. Horrible" with "The Avengers"/"Buffy" honcho Joss Whedon -- Jed's brother and Tancharoeon's brother-in-law -- and are working with him on a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV spinoff. And when it comes to "Dr. Horrible" updates, they acknowledged in a recent interview that they're fully aware that fans have heard that particular song and dance before. "All we ever do is say, 'We're making it, we're making it!' and then years go by," Jed Whedon told HuffPost TV with a laugh in a recent interview. "I think if we wait any longer, people are going to be like, 'Whatever,'" Tanch ...

White Collar Season 4 – Reloads via Sons of Anarchy, LOST, 24
Boom Tron - over 4 years
More news regarding casting for White Collars fourth season has surfaced with a number of pleasing names making the list of guest stars. Right at the top of the list is the terrific – and effortlessly intimidating – Titus Welliver, followed by Reed Diamond and Sprague Grayden. Diamond and Grayden should be recognizable from their days on 24 and Sons of Anarchy, as well as Diamond’s current staring role on TNT’s Franklin & Bash. But it’s Welliver who claims the title of most anticipated actor in my books. This man has been around the block a few times and knows how to bring his A game to whatever part he’s playing, whether it’s the mysterious Man in Black from Lost, as one of the Four Horsemen in Supernatural, or his more recent gig on The Good Wife, Welliver’s presence commands our attention. related | LOST’S REBECCA MADER IN WHITE COLLAR SEASON 4 As reported by TV Guide, Welliver will be playing the part of Senator Terrence Pratt, a prominent politician with ties to Neal’s ( ...

Happy Shakespeare Day: Five Big-Screen Bard Gems
MTV News - almost 5 years
On this day way back in 1564, William Shakespeare was born... or not, because apparently his exact birth date isn’t known. But today's the day we celebrate the man!. If you’re unfamiliar with the Bard, here’s the briefest of introductions: Ol’ Will gave us a lot of pretty poetry as well as some fine plays that are the inspiration for countless TV and movie adaptations. If you’re like me, you may have supplemented your high school English class reading assignments with a few of those filmed adaptations (notice I wrote “supplemented” and not “replaced.” I never did that). So to celebrate the anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth (and death, which was definitely on April 23rd), here are my five favorite films based on or inspired by works of the Bard. 1. “West Side Story” (1961) One of the greatest movie musicals ever made, “Story” placed the “Romeo and Juliet” saga in the gang-controlled streets of New York City. The Jets and the Sharks danced and rumbled their way into film hi ...
