7 Actors Who've Played Romeo Montague
Huffington Post - over 3 years
In anticipation of this month's theatrical release of Romeo and Juliet (from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes), my "Twisted Lit" co-author, Kim Askew, and I have rounded up the Hollywood hotties who are always welcome at our metaphorical balcony (and those which, arguably, ought to be banished). See if you agree with our Shakespearean shortlist: Orlando Bloom Romeo Rating: 3 out of 5 Currently playing young Montague on Broadway, the man who made an elf seem sexy (Legolas!) can buckle our knees, no problem, even despite the fact that at 35, he's downright geriatric for the role. Douglas Booth Romeo Rating: 4 out of 5 Romancing Hailee Steinfeld's Juliet in the upcoming theatrical release (in theaters October 11), this Romeo's got the requisite "pretty boy" looks and a jawbone sharper than the sword he uses to (spoiler alert), slay Tybalt. Having also played Pip in a recent adaptation of Great Expectations, Booth is, in a word, any English major's dream. Nicholas Houl ...

West Side Story to Open at Pace Academy Nov. 8
Buckhead Patch - over 4 years
By Caitlin Goodrich Pace Academy will kick off the Upper School Theatre’s 2012-13 season with West Side Story Nov. 8 to Nov. 11 in the school’s Fine Arts Center. The musical is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet that explores the rivalry between the Sharks and the Jets, two street gangs in 1950s New York. It debuted on Broadway in 1957 and was nominated for five Tony Awards. The 1961 film starring Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer earned a Best Picture Oscar. With music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, its popular score features showstoppers such as Maria, America, Somewhere, Tonight and I Feel Pretty. "West Side Story depicts a world in which young lovers are doomed by social conditions they cannot control," longtime Pace Academy Theatre Director Dr. George Mengert said. "That world is still with us today. Gangs still fight over neighborhood turf; bigotry and racism continue to incite needless killing; and love still struggles ...

West Side Story
LGBT Weekly- San Diego - almost 5 years
West Side Story dvr this Turner Classic Films, Monday, May 7, 7 p.m. Easily one of the two or three greatest movie musicals of all time, West Side Story is also my favorite. Stunningly shot, directed and choreographed, it is not just so beautiful to look at, but as affecting as any production of Romeo & Juliet, which it is, of course, based on. The rival Italian families of Shakespeare’s play are replaced by rival ethnic gangs in modern New York City, with Maria (Natalie Wood) falling in love with Tony (Richard Beymer) before tragedy strikes. The songs and the score are among the most indelible of 20th century music. Not to be missed.

LGBT Weekly- San Diego - about 5 years
It’s that time of year when soccer moms get to pushing, shoving and even pepper spraying at Wal-Mart, all in order to get the perfect gifts. Seeing as our community likes to take a decidedly different tack and deliver a sack full of goodies to their loved ones, without bodily harm being involved – shouldn’t that good behavior be rewarded? Well, consider this my gift to you in finding last minute presents to make your yuletide bright with divas, DVD delights and even a little guy candy … happy holidays. A diva’s Christmas Kylie Minogue: Aphrodite Les Folies – Live In London The Impossible Princess showcased her nickname with the awe-inspiring, death-defying and very eye-popping Aphrodite Les Folies Tour.
