Iconic Vogue Editor: I'm Not Gay
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Former Vogue editor and famed fashionista André Leon Talley might be a fan of many labels, but "gay" is not one of them. The 63-year-old, who is profiled in Vanity Fair's September 2013 issue, was asked by Vanity Fair contributing editor Vanessa Grigoriadis if he thought he was gay, even as a teenager in high school. Talley responded in the negative. “No, no, no. I was just into my magazines and the drawings," he said. "I had a very strict upbringing, almost puritanical. I lived there all the way through college. I was in my grandmother’s house, and I respected that!” Talley told Grigoriadis he rejects the gay “label," but admitted to having had some “very gay experiences." Designers not included. "[Y]es, I swear on my grandmother’s grave that I never slept with a single designer in my life. Never, ever desired, never was asked, never was approached, never, ever bought, in my entire career. Never. Not one. Skinny or fat. Never.” He also said he has never been in ...

Tom Ford: 'I Didn't Have A Child Because I Wanted To Hand Him Off To Somebody'
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
With Kate Middleton, Margherita Missoni and Sarah Burton pregnant (not to mention the recent birth of Frida Giannini's daughter), it seems like babies are the toast of the fashion world. Naturally, Tom Ford, the ultimate tastemaker, has officially set the bar for stylish parenting. During a sit-down with André Leon Talley for Vogue.com, the designer dished on his and parter Richard Buckley's new baby Alexander John Buckley Ford. "He has a very long, fancy name, but we call him Jack," Tom says. Don't let the fancy name fool you though -- Mr. Ford does all of your typical parenting duties. "I feed him in the morning, I change his diaper, I dress him, I play with him," he says. "I have a good two or three hours before I go into the office with just me and Jack." André seems pretty shocked to find out that a man who heads one of the most glam fashion houses in the biz would get down and dirty in the name of fatherhood and asks, "You change diapers? Are they made of broadc ...

Richard III: DNA confirms twisted bones belong to king
Guardian (UK) - about 4 years
Skeleton found beneath Leicester car park confirmed as that of Richard III, as work begins on new tomb near excavation site • Read the latest on the discovery here Not just the identity of the man in the car park with the twisted spine, but the appalling last moments and humiliating treatment of the naked body of Richard III in the hours after his death have been revealed at an extraordinary press conference at Leicester University. There were cheers when Richard Buckley, lead archaeologist on the hunt for the king's body, finally announced that the university team was convinced "beyond reasonable doubt" that it had found the last Plantagenet king, bent by scoliosis of the spine, and twisted further to fit into a hastily dug hole in Grey Friars church, which was slightly too small to hold his body. But by then it was clear the evidence was overwhelming, as the scientists who carried out the DNA tests, those who created the computer-imaging technology to peer on to and into the bon ...

Tom Ford Welcomes Son Alexander John
Celebrity Babies - People - over 4 years
Harold Cunningham/Getty Tom Ford is a dad! The fashion designer and his partner, journalist Richard Buckley, ”are proud to announce the birth of their son, Alexander John Buckley Ford, born in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 23,” his rep tells PEOPLE. Ford, 51, is often credited with the turnaround of Gucci during his 10-year run as creative director of the label, a role which ended in 2004. He and Buckley, 64, have been together since 1986. “If I have children, no one will know about it until the child is born. And no one will ever see the child because I certainly wouldn’t use it as a press tool,” the designer and director of A Single Man said in a 2011 interview with Time Out Hong Kong. “If I have a child, you won’t notice that I had a child. Maybe you’ll see it when it’s 18, but I will keep it out of the spotlight.” – Sarah Michaud

King Richard III Buried Underneath A Parking Lot?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Seems like England's Richard III may have gotten a burial not-quite fit for a king. Archaeologists believe the king, who was killed in battle in 1485, could be resting under a parking lot in Leicester, according to the Los Angeles Times. A team from the University of Leicester began excavation work on Saturday, Reuters reports. The archaeologists believe the car lot was once the site of a Franciscan friary known as the Greyfriars, who cared for Richard III's remains after he was killed during the Battle of Bosworth, a battle in the English civil war known as the War of the Roses. "The big question for us is determining the whereabouts of the church on the site and also where in the church the body was buried," Richard Buckley, of the University of Leicester, told the LA Times. The university are working with the Richard III Society and Leicester City Council to hunt for the monarch's bones, according to the CBS LiveScience staff. Diggers will use ground-penet ...

Kevin Dunn Drops Out of Herricks School Board Race
New Hyde Park Patch - almost 5 years
Kevin Dunn recently announced that due to health issues he cannot continue in the race for a position as a trustee on the Herricks Board of Education. “I wish Nancy and Brian the best of luck with the challenges in the upcoming school year and to continue the educational opportunities for our children,” Dunn said in a statement read at the district’s meet the candidate night on Tuesday at the Herricks Community Center, citing health concerns as a primary reason for his decision. Initially with Dunn in the race, there were three people vying for two trustee spots – those of Richard Buckley and Peter Grisafi. With Dunn leaving the race, only two candidates –  Brian Hassan and Nancy Feinstein – are running for these two spots. Herricks Assistant Superintendent of Business Helen Costigan told the approximately 30 attendees at the meet the candidates night that because of the timing of Dunn’s departure, applications for the school board trustees have been extended through May 8 at ...
