Who Cares If The Joker Is Barely In 'Suicide Squad'? Now He's Got His Own Music Video
Huffington Post - 7 months
In case you’ve been living in a media-proof bunker:  A) “Suicide Squad” opened on Friday B) The critics hated it C) It still did really well at the box office and D) The Joker was hardly in the movie.  The caped crusader’s arch-nemesis barely racks up 15 minutes of screen time, according to Variety. He disappears halfway through the movie, only to pop up in the final scene.  So it’s fitting that this great injustice has been course-corrected with the music video for “Purple Lamborghini,” one of the tracks off the film’s far better reviewed soundtrack.  In the video dropped on Friday, Jared Leto’s Joker appears alongside rapper Rick Ross in a song helmed by Skrillex, as they wreak havoc in Gotham City. The trio convene in a club tailor-made for the supervillain ― knives everywhere, masked men, scantily-clad women ― before taking in the city’s sights by boat and, of course, a cavalcade of tricked out vehicles.  Ross and Leto, who admitted his downgraded role took him aback, ...

Slick Rick On His U.S. Citizenship, New Tour And Possible Drake Collab
Huffington Post - 8 months
This is the latest installment in “Black In The Day,” an occasional HuffPost series about black entertainers taking an introspective look at their careers from back in the day. Hip-hop's “greatest storyteller,” Slick Rick has concluded the final chapter in his over two decade-long legal battle for citizenship and now is ready to get back to music.  After a 23-year-protracted legal battle, in April the British-born MC was sworn in as an American citizen during an official ceremony in New York, making him a duel citizen with the retainment of his U.K. Citizenship. The Grammy-nominated rapper faced years of repeated deportation threats from the United States Department of Homeland Security. Despite his status as a legal resident since 1976, and receiving a pardon in 2008 from then-New York Governor David A. Paterson for his rehabilitation and community contributions, Rick spent four years in a deportation lock up, which prevented him from traveling internationally. To commemora ...

You Might Be Rapey, Too -- The Real Reason Some People Are Defending Bill Cosby and R. Kelly
Huffington Post - about 1 year
This post was originally published on the blog, Frequent FlyHer. I must've been in high school when I was riding in the car with my mother as we listened to Tom Joyner, I believe it was, call Aaliyah up in school, yes school, and ask her about her marriage to R. Kelly. I don't really remember all of the details, but I do remember her reticence and discomfort with the conversation. Afterwards, I remember still listening to the song pinned by her "alleged" husband, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number," and rocking back and forth to it (no pun intended), jamming, singing along, not understanding that I was listening to a Lolita-esque anthem written by the chocolate Humbert Humbert himself. The same Humbert "R. Kelly" Humbert, who asked for some I.D. before he got deep in...Who the fuck needs an ID though! Whom are you fucking whose age is really that questionable that it makes for an actual song lyric?!?!?!!?! When you step back for a moment, and really look at this, you have to scratch you ...
