Robert Tchenguiz is the brother of Vincent Tchenguiz He hails from an Iraqi-Jewish background. His family left Iraq in 1948 and settled in Iran. At this time, the family name was changed from Khadouri to Tchenguiz. The fall of the Shah of Iran in 1979 precipitated a move from the country. Tchenguiz completed his Iranian education in Tehran.
