Giving Voice to Grief
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Todd Arky, a successful entrepreneur (perhaps best known for co-founding Seamless) is trying to change the conversation - or lack thereof - around loss and bereavement. Todd lost his own father at age 12. In the cloud of grief, when so much else felt numb, his father's best friend gave him the kind of support he so very much needed. Todd remembers vividly when Bruce told him that "he was exactly the same age when his [own] father died and that this would be really tough, but I would be okay." Most importantly for Todd, "his common loss gave me a real sense of strength." In finding another person with whom to share in the grief and open up about his own, Todd was indeed able to emerge with strength from the grieving process. It also made him want to become a person like Bruce for others who had lost loved ones. It goes without saying that no two people grieve in the same way. Everyone's needs are different at a time of loss, as are everyone's emotions. But in giving voice to one's ...

Connecting the Dots Between Green Beauty and Mother Earth: Tips From Rona Berg
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
In April, people around the world celebrate Earth Day. This day was created in 1970 by Senator Gaylord Nelson, and it is a great time to celebrate and appreciate one's connection to the environment. Some people use this time to plant trees and attend events about sustainable practices. Earth Day brings awareness to a social, political and economic movement that affects us all on a daily basis (even if we don't think it does). What happens after Earth Day, with your daily individual practices, is what the collective movement is all about. We need to all move forward thinking about how our small daily habits have huge effects on Mother Earth. Most of us know about going green with our foods and eating organic, which has positive effects on our bodies, and helps protect the earth. But what about the products you actually put on your body? The term "green beauty" is not only about what the ingredients your personal care products do to you, it's also about the effects it has on the ...

'The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill' Turns 15
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," one of the most acclaimed album of the 1990s. We're taking a look back at the classic and its impact, which is still felt among hip-hop and R&B today. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" hit stores on Aug. 25, 1998, to widespread acclaim. The New York Times called it "miraculous," Enteratinment Weekly said it had "often-astonishing power," and The Village Voice labeled it "majestic." Hill wrote "Miseducation" while pregnant for her and then-boyfriend Rohan Marley's first child. Columbia Records suggested bringing in an outside producer to assist on the album, with Wu-Tang Clan member RZA's name being tossed about as a possibility. But Hill insisted she be allowed to write and produce the project herself. "Miseducation" was Hill's solo debut following The Fugees' successful 1996 release "The Score." The album's first mainstream single, "Doo Wop (That Thing)," became a monstrous success, cat ...

Hill said in an online post that she had not paid taxes since she withdrew from society to guarantee the safety and well-being of herself and her family.
