The Beginning Of A National Movement To End Gun Violence
The Huffington Post - 5 months
Last month I wrote a column about the Concert Across America To End Gun Violence and I likened it to the great Woodstock festival in 1969 that helped define the popular culture of a generation.  But I’m beginning to think that the Concert Across America that takes place on September 25th will probably eclipse Woodstock both in terms of cultural symbolism and political significance because Woodstock was just a big, live concert event with lots of music and lots of bands (and lots of dope) but the Concert Across America is shaping up to be much more. First of all, let’s cover some specifics.  When I wrote my last column, the New York City concert at the Beacon Theater had Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash and Marc Cohn, but now the program has added the Gospel Choir of Harlem and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, and there may be more artists to come. I also didn’t yet know about the program for the concert at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theater which is a real doozie because it includes Kenny Loggi ...

Video: Lollapalooza 2013 parties - Day 3
Chicago Times - over 3 years
Unlike on Thursday and Friday, Saturday offered plenty of Lollapalooza parties during the day. The Rolling Stone Stage party at Paris Club's upstairs club, Studio Paris, kicked off at noon and featured a performance by The Vaccines (and in incredible shrimp and lobster spread). Gilt City Chicago's Better Than Backstage party on the rooftop of EnV apartments also started at noon and featured a performance by MS MR and appearances by Derek Hough ("Dancing with the Stars"), Jesse Spencer ("Chicago Fire") and singer Ryan Cabrera. Later that night, Samantha Ronson DJed at The Underground, Adventure Club DJed at Studio Paris and Salt-n-Peppa and The Dolls performed at the ASOS Rocks! party at the Hard Rock Hotel, where Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad") was partying.

The Symmetry Live party at the W Chicago - Lakeshore hotel's Wet deck featuring Jessie Ware on Thursday made me wonder why more people aren't hanging out at this seventh floor bar with incredible views of Lake Michigan and Navy Pier, the Filter Magazine Lolla kickoff party at the Logan Square Auditorium featuring Smith Westerns reminded me why I love partying with hipsters (but why didn't I see "Shaun of the Dead" co-stars Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, who were scheduled to make an appearance?) and The Underground party proved that it's still a contender in the late night scene with its impressive renovantion and new lighting. Lil Jon, Randy Jackson and Ryan Cabrera were on hand for the latter party.

Avril Lavigne: Impact X: It's My Birthday...
The Huffington Post - over 4 years
When I created the Avril Lavigne Foundation in 2010, one of my main goals was to bring laughter and fun into the lives of sick or disabled children and youth. I wanted these kids, who had gone through so much and overcome such great obstacles, to have fun. I also wanted to find a way for my fans to get involved. My Foundation's mission is to provide Respect, Opportunity, Choices, Knowledge and Strength to children and youth living with serious illnesses or disabilities, and we work with partners like Easter Seals, Make-A-Wish, and Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. I am so proud that the Foundation already has more than 230,000 Facebook fans and 108,000 Twitter followers -- so many people have joined together to support kids who face huge challenges! Every year on my birthday (which is today), I receive tons of letters, gifts and words of support. I am always so grateful, and this year I wanted to combine my fans' love and support with the Avril Lavigne Foundation's ...
