The Portland Mercury - over 3 years
This week: Pam Grier in Jackie Brown vs. Audrey Tatou in Thérèse! WHO YA GOT??? Clueless See My, What a Busy Week! Academy Theater. The Family Directed by Luc Besson and based on the novel Malavita by Tonino Benacquista, this is a very French movie, milking incredibly lazy stereotypes of Americans and plundering already excessively plundered mafia movie tropes. At points, the movie is one of those winking, small-town, fish-out-of-water Euro-comedies; at others, it veers into mob-movie spoof territory. There's a scene where Robert De Niro's character watches GoodFellas, which makes my head explode just thinking about it. NED LANNAMANN Various Theaters. Flash Gordon Like John Carter, but with Queen! Star Sam J. Jones in attendance. Roseway Theater. Fruitvale Station It's a few hours into New Year's Day 2009, and a transit cop stands over 22-year-old Oscar Grant and his friends in the aftermath of a fight on a commuter trai ...

Jackie K. Cooper: Ted: Count Me Among the Haters
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Mark Wahlberg is one of my favorite actors. He has grown so much over the years as he has increased both his comedic and dramatic range. Recently he produced and starred in the amazing film The Fighter and this year he has already shown his box office power with Contraband. So why did he want to waste his talents on a crude, dumb movie like Ted? Ted tells the story of a young boy named John who was so desperate for friends that he wished his teddy bear to life. The two have remained best friends to the present time when John (Wahlberg) is in his thirties and his teddy bear, named Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), is too -- if teddy bears age. Ted is a bong puffing, sex addicted, profanity spouting teddy bear that John loves. He can not give him up, even when his long suffering girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) tells him it's the bear or her. It's not that he doesn't want to; it is just that they have been best friends for so long. This is the basic premise of the film, a g ...

Say What? FLASH GORDON Star Now A Bodyguard In Mexico
Comic Book Movie - over 4 years
Flash Gordon didn't do very well at the box office when it was released, but the campy film from the 80's has developed a cult following. The film is best known for it's outstanding soundtrack created by the rock band Queen. Outside of that the film is filled with bad acting, cheesy special effects and inexpensive sets. For all of its faults the movie somehow finds a way of being quite entertaining at times. So bad it's good. The star of the film Sam J. Jones didn't get a boost to his acting career and for decades was relegated to minor roles in film and television. As acting prospects dried up the former Marine took his talents to a major security firm where he now guards high-level executives in high-risk areas of the world. The former superhero tells Entertainment Weekly about his career as a bodyguard. What’s it like doing
