Raf Simons debuts Calvin Klein collection at New York Fashion Week
Yahoo News - 17 days
The runway debut of the first collection by Calvin Klein's new chief creative officer, Raf Simons, was the talk of the town on Friday, the second day of New York Fashion Week. Calvin Klein's dependable style of tailored suits and neutral blouses was invigorated by brightly colored pockets, see-through fabrics, plastic coats and varsity sweater sleeves. Vogue editor Anna Wintour, actresses Millie Bobby Brown, Sarah Jessica Parker, Naomie Harris, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, Brooke Shields and Greta Gerwig, and rapper ASAP Rocky were just some of the celebrities who lined the catwalk as models strutted to David Bowie's song "This Is Not America." The show was one of the most widely anticipated of New York Fashion Week because of Simons, who resigned from Christian Dior in 2015.

Advice For Beyoncé From One Twin Mama To Another
Huffington Post - 24 days
By Amanda Sorena Beyoncé and I have a lot in common. Stay with me here. I live in Houston, she's from Houston. She just announced she is pregnant with twins, I have twins. We had an older daughter before having our twins, and so does she. She likes to visit BB's Café when she's in town and we love that place, too. If we met in real life, I hope we would hit it off. It also doesn't hurt that "All the Single Ladies" is one of our bedtime songs. True story. So, since we are (clearly) already meant to be friends, I feel like I can give Beyoncé a little direct advice about twin parenthood. People will give you lots of advice -- only take it from other twin parents Things that applied to raising Blue Ivy don't necessarily apply when you have twins. "Never wake a sleeping baby," doesn't work when you need two kids on the same feeding schedule to have any chance of taking a shower or sleeping again. How do you feed two babies at once? What kind of stroller works best for two ...

3 Reasons Mark Wahlberg Should Shut Up (And 1 Reason I'm Just Kidding)
Huffington Post - about 1 month
Last December, Mark Wahlberg spoke out against celebrities speaking out regarding politics. He believes that Hollywood shouldn't use their public platforms for the political causes held nearest and dearest to their heart because...wait for it...Hollywood lives in a bubble and is out of touch with the people! Of course, Wahlberg comes from such humble beginnings being from a large family of nine children and a former high school dropout, he gets a free pass to speak his mind about how celebrities should not speak their mind - at least according to him. He's one of the few that have managed to stay grounded and in touch with the American people and their concerns in life. I'm not exactly sure the reason he's been able to remain outside "the bubble." I saw a 60 Minutes interview from 2013 where he proclaimed he was a daily churchgoer and avid basketball player amongst the common man. He also donated money to charity - like pretty much everybody else in Hollywood. Nevermind, Wahlbe ...

Jewelry Designers to Know in 2017
Huffington Post - about 1 month
Mizuki, Courtesy of Stone & Strand Last month, in the midst of a conversation about gift recommendations, a jewelry-editor friend asked me a rather interesting question: Were there any designers I had my eye on for 2017? I did, in fact, and so did she. We ended up having a great exchange, which I then mentally filed away for this column. There are so many great young talents out there, and I'm excited to share them with you. And what better time than now, as we're in the swing of the new year? Vancouver native Wing Yau is a jewelry designer who has been quietly building buzz ever since she launched her WWAKE collection in 2012. But 2016 was really the year she began to break through for her artful, intriguing takes on heirloom jewelry -- like her delicate bejeweled rings with a surprise arc. Yau was named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 (Sarah Jessica Parker was among those on the judging panel) and had a marquee moment during New York Fashion Week in September when she launch ...

A-Listers Party At The White House Until Morning To Say Goodbye To Barack Obama
Huffington Post - about 2 months
With only two weeks left until Barack and Michelle Obama vacate the White House for good, the first family welcomed a host of celebrity guests on Friday night for a star-studded farewell party.  Aside from an awards show, there haven’t been this many famous people gathered in one room since a casting call for a holiday-themed Garry Marshall romantic comedy.  The White House bash effectively serves as the kickoff to events celebrating President Obama’s time in office, leading up to his final address, which he’ll deliver in Chicago on Jan. 10. Days later, President-elect Donald Trump will call 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. home after his inauguration, for which he’s struggled to find big-name performers.  In contrast, Obama’s farewell party attracted some of the biggest A-listers around. Attendees reportedly included Meryl Streep, George and Amal Clooney, Robert De Niro, Beyoncé and Jay Z, Nick Jonas, Jordin Sparks, David Letterman, Paul McCartney, Kelly Rowland, Olivia Wilde and Jas ...

There's So Much Going On With Sarah Jessica Parker's Outfit
Huffington Post - 3 months
Any day that the sartorial line between Sarah Jessica Parker and Carrie Bradshaw blurs into one big couture party is a good day indeed. SJP appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday night, and we couldn’t help but wonder if the sparkly off-the-shoulder dress, embellished stockings, layered necklaces and bright pink pumps came from her own closet or the “Sex and the City” archives. Aside from the fact that she gracefully pulled off a bold look, that Parker comfortably sat for a televised interview in a dress that looked like it could slip off at any moment had Bradshaw written all over it. And as if the dress itself wasn’t bold enough, she was also spotted wearing a clashing patterned coat over the whole ensemble. Come. In March 2005, Parker's contract with the Gap ended, and was replaced with then 17-year-old British soul singer Joss Stone.
More Details Hide Details A rising star at the time, Stone's replacing of Parker was a puzzling move to the public. The company then stated that "While Gap will always seek partnerships with celebrities, musicians and rising stars, we don't have any future plans to sign a single person to a multi-season deal like the unique and special relationship we enjoyed with Sarah Jessica".
It was the first multi-season contract in the clothing company's history, in which Parker was to appear in their upcoming fall ads, and continue until the Spring of 2005.
More Details Hide Details The endorsement sparked many levels of criticism from the public; the glamorous, urban-chic fashionista that her character Carrie Bradshaw has branded her with, was ironic considering the Gap maintains an image that does not promote high-end fashion. Wendy Liebmann, president of WSL strategic retail, suggested that the Gap "felt the need for an iconic but contemporary face to represent themselves.... they were perhaps feeling a little insecure, a little in need of some high luster around the brand". However, the ad campaigns were a success, and Parker had given the Gap a new, fresh face that appeared in many commercials, online and print ads, and other promotions.

More Details Hide Details The script for an HBO drama/comedy series titled Sex and the City was sent to Parker. The show's creator, Darren Star, wanted her for his project. Despite some doubts about being cast in a long-term television series, Parker agreed to star. After five nominations, in 2004, Parker won an Emmy Award for her lead role. Parker said in 2006 that she "will never do a television show again." After Sex and the City ended in 2004, rumors of a film version circulated.
