With 'Late Show,' Stephen Colbert Treats the Internet Like an Adult
Huffington Post - over 1 year
BY BEN BRANSTETTER Newly anointed Late Show host Stephen Colbert has turned more than a few heads with his guest list. Since taking over David Letterman's chair last month, the comedian has shaken up the typical late night roster of actors and pop stars by inviting public figures not used to drawing such attention -- like former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Secretary of State John Kerry, and U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. While politicians are no strangers to late night TV -- former Colbert compatriot Jon Stewart had each of those men on during his tenure of The Daily Show -- Colbert is embracing serious discussion in ways less similar to Letterman and more similar to Charlie Rose. Perhaps most surprising, however, are the guests Colbert has hosted who are also outside the realm of politics and governance. Interviews with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, and Apple CEO Tim Cook have brought the culture of Silicon Valley to mainstream television in ...

'No Man's Sky' Will Change Gaming and Maybe Redeem Sean Murray's Soul
Huffington Post - over 1 year
This article originally appeared on Inverse. By Eric Francisco It's a chilly Saturday night in lower Manhattan inside One World Trade during The New Yorker's Tech@Fest 2015. Sean Murray, Managing Director of Hello Games and chief designer of the highly-anticipated No Man's Sky, sat in front of a live audience. He was having a midlife crisis. "Am I a good programmer?" he wondered. Attending his demonstration was a Venn diagram of gamers, tech enthusiasts, and anyone who watched the previous night's Colbert, and they laughed along with (not at) him at his public revelation. It wasn't distressing, it was just telling of his headspace going into No Man's Sky, the boundless exploration game boasting 18 quintillion planets to explore. The only video game at Tech@Fest, it's apparent why No Man's Sky is here alone: it's going to change everything. Or maybe just a lot of things, like what we decide a video game should or should not be. No Man's Sky does feature enemies, some ...

'Joe Danger' Gets All Touchy-Feely On iOS Later This Month
MTV News - about 4 years
It looks like "Joe Danger" will be bringing is Evel Knievel-inspired antics to the App Store later this month. Speaking to CVG, Hello Games head honcho Sean Murray said "Joe Danger Touch" will backflip onto iPhone and iPad with new features and characters. "I don't think Joe Danger Touch feels like anything else I've played," said Murray. "I want it to feel like it could only work on iOS, because we've built it specifically for the device. Towards the end of the game, it gets super difficult, probably more so than the console version. I'm amazed what levels I can handle sometimes, and the subtlety possible with just a touch interface." Somewhat expectedly, the new characters being introduced in "Joe Danger Touch" can be unlocked by either progressing through the game, or submitting your credit card to dreaded in-app purchases. There's also the addition of Game Center support, through which players will be able to send their friends challenges. There's no specific release da ...

NCIS Season 10 Gets Rocky
Boom Tron - over 4 years
The latest news coming in regarding contract negotiations for the cast of NCIS –dealing specifically with Rocky Carroll – has put me in a bit of an awkward position. Often times my own personal opinions conflict with a number of television shows in the world, but that’s hardly a crime, and I feel this is something that needs to be addressed. In fact, it’s everyone’s right to allow their biases to affect the way they view basically anything within reason. In this particular case, the fact that NCIS is the number one rated drama on TV right now means nothing to me. It could be the only drama on television and I would still boycott the series over the business it has done with Mr. Carroll. Be warned: this is about to get weird. related | DINOZZO OF NCIS COMMITS MAJOR CRIMES WITH TNT TVLine reported Carroll has inked a new deal to appear on NCIS throughout Season 10. I’m appalled. Heading into May sweeps, CBS’ NCIS — aka TV’s most-watched drama — had four series regulars unsigned for Season 10. As of Tuesday, David McCallum had inked a new deal to stick around as Ducky. Joe Danger death-defying his way to iOS & Android
Into Mobile - almost 5 years
If you’re a fan of side-scrolling racing games similar to Ubisoft’s Trials Revolution, which coincidentally released on XBLA today, then you might have heard of a game called Joe Danger. Joe Danger was originally released exclusively on the Playstation Network, but after a few months, found its way to the Xbox Live Arcade. Now, it looks like Joe Danger will be making another death-defying leap onto both the iOS & Android platforms. During an interview with Gamasutra, Hello co-founder Sean Murray let the cat out of the bag as he mentioned the iOS and Android versions of Joe Danger won’t be a simple port of the original games. Instead, the game will be platform specific and will use gesture-based controls such as swiping the screen to make Joe wheelie, nudging him in the air to affect his gravity, or flicking barriers out of Joe’s way making the experience on touchscreen devices much easier to interact with. I certainly enjoyed my time with both versions of Joe Danger as it offer ...
