Kenny Barron's Piano, Sharon Clark's Vocals and James Carter's Horn at the 22ndAnnual Jazz Foundation of America's Loft Party
Huffington Post - over 3 years
The Jazz Foundation of America's loft party, an annual concert to benefit a vital organization that helps players with medical expenses, housing, recording, you name it, is wall to wall music occupying three large spaces simultaneously. It is hard to know which room to occupy,--choices must be made-- but when we heard that Kenny Barron would be playing in the Jazz Loft, we simply had to be there. We caught the tail end of Sharon Clark who scats like Ella, singing "Moonlight in Vermont" and "You'd be So Nice (To Come Home To)." And then Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chili Peppers introduced Kenny Barron's trio featuring David "Happy" Williams on bass and Victor Lewis on drums performing "Blue Monk," "Dialogues in Blue," Eubie Blake's "Memories of You," and "Autumn Leaves." Michigan man who murdered at age 11 is sentenced to 5 years' probation in prison guard assault
Fox News - over 4 years
A Michigan man who committed murder at age 11 has been sentenced to five years of probation in a prison guard assault case. Nathaniel Abraham pleaded guilty May 1 to attacking the guard at the end of 2010. The 26-year-old was sentenced Tuesday in Lenawee County Circuit Court. Abraham already is serving a four-to-20-year sentence for drug possession. According to the state Department of Corrections, Abraham's earliest release date on the drug conviction is in August. That could have been in jeopardy had Judge Timothy Pickard elected Tuesday to order Abraham to serve additional prison time in the assault case. Abraham's lawyer, Sharon Clark Woodside, says her client is "grateful" for the judge's decision. Abraham was convicted of murder in the 1997 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Ronnie Greene in Pontiac.
