Iceman Gets His First Gay Kiss
Huffington Post - 27 days
After revealing he is gay in 2015, X-Men’s Iceman is finally getting his first gay kiss. In the latest issue of the All New X-Men comic, the popular mutant locks lips with another character named Romeo who reportedly “belongs to a rival class of superhuman known as Inhumans.” In the comic, the pair go on a series of dates, ultimately leading to their big, romantic moment. Marvel confirmed Iceman’s gay identity in 2015 with a plot line involving a teenage version of the character. “As a young person reading comics, starved to see my own life experience reflected on the page, I remember thinking it seemed only possible for that to happen as a one-off story relegated to a D-List character,” Marvel Comics Editor Daniel Ketchum told The Huffington Post at the time. “I don’t know that I would have believed it if I was told that years later, this story would be presented in the flagship ‘X-Men’ title, featuring an A-list character who has been a mainstay of the franchise since the ...

'X-Men' Star Shawn Ashmore Wants To Play Iceman As Gay
Huffington Post - about 1 year
The actor who brought Iceman to life in the blockbuster "X-Men" film series said he's open to playing the iconic character as gay in the future.  Most recently seen opposite Kevin Bacon in Fox's "The Following," Shawn Ashmore told IGN that having Bobby Drake, or Iceman, come out as gay would "probably be the most interesting thing that could happen" to the character.  "If they decided to take the story that way, it’d be incredibly dramatic, it’d be an interesting storyline, and it would give Bobby a great character arc," Ashmore said. Although he'd "definitely be open" to that character development, the 36-year-old actor is aware that the films have departed from the specifics of the comic book series a good deal.  "Obviously the comics and movies are separate," he said. "I wonder what the transition would be because we’ve sort of established Bobby as having a love interest in Rogue and having a love interest in sort of Kitty Pryde, but I think it’d be really interest ...

MTV News - almost 4 years
by Brett White Now that filming for "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has commenced, director Bryan Singer's Twitter feed has become even more lively. A few days ago the director tweeted the first image of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, which came after a Vine video of Ian McKellen and a makeup test of Nicholas Hoult as Beast. Now we can add Iceman to the ranks of previewed mutants. Singer tweeted a picture of actor Shawn Ashmore undergoing preparation for the facial tracking that will enable Iceman to appear iced-up. Check out the full tweet and picture below. Tracking @shawnrashmore #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast twitter.com/BryanSinger/st… — Bryan Singer (@BryanSinger) April 16, 2013 The real question is whether or not Bobby Drake will sport a beard in the film. Will we get to see an icebeard? What little we can see of Iceman's uniform matches up nicely with Professor X's new look. It appears that the X-Men have updated their wardrobe to include fabrics other than black le ...

The Challenge For 'The Following' Season 2
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Shawn Ashmore's "The Following" character, Agent Mike Weston, has been sidelined for the last few episodes after a vicious beating at the hands of Joe Carroll's (James Purefoy) followers. On the Monday, April 8th episode, titled "The Curse," Weston returns and he's a little different than when fans last saw him. We're not just talking about the bruises. "Mike comes back a changed man and I don't think he's outright out for revenge, but he's changed," Ashmore told The Huffington Post in a phone interview. "He's affected physically and emotionally by the beating and near-death experience from that interrogation at the hands of Roderick [Warren Kole] and the other followers. He comes back with a different approach when it comes to the followers. I don't think he's taking any chances and so when he's face-to-face with them, he definitely acts a little bit more impulsively and defends himself probably more than he would have in the past." The different approaches Ashmore ment ...

Guess Who Is Headed To 'X-Men'
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Good news for "X-Men" fans! Director Bryan Singer took to his Twitter account on Saturday to announce new cast members for the upcoming film. Singer noted that Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore have been added to the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" cast. The director also thanked Brett Ratner, who directed "X-Men: The Last Stand," the third film in the franchise. It was made public in November that both Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart will be returning to the film as well. "What a gas! I mean, Patrick Stewart and I have been have just been playing 'Waiting for Godot' throughout England and in the West End of London. So, we've stayed in touch. We can't believe it [laughs]. I thought these were Fassbender and McAvoy's parts, but -- no, no -- we're back," McKellen told HuffPost in November. "We'll give them a run for their money. I mean, I haven't read the script, so I don't know how much we've got to do. But, to be back in that world, and for Bryan to ...

Denette Wilford: 'The Following' Like A Movie Of The Week -- Every Week
Huffington Post - about 4 years
If you've had your TV set to CTV or Fox, or been to a movie theater in the last month or so, "The Following" has been shoved down your throat. Hard. And despite the desire to not give in, all it takes is the first few minutes of the pilot and -- bam! We're sucked in. Kevin Williamson may be synonymous with teenage horror stories -- the "Scream" movies, "The Vampire Diaries," "Dawson's Creek" -- but his latest creation, "The Following," is as grown-up as it gets. Aside from appearances as himself ("Will & Grace," "Bored to Death"), Kevin Bacon hasn't been on the small screen since his pre-"Footloose" days as Tim Werner on "Guiding Light" (back when it was called "The Guiding Light"). But Bacon saw first-hand how great a TV gig is, thanks to his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, so he decided to follow (sorry) her to television. And, boy, oh boy, it's quite the return, one reminiscent of Kiefer Sutherland's run as Jack Bauer on "24" (and Fox is hoping lightning strikes twice). ...

Shawn Ashmore is poised to make a splash on TV in Fox's "The Following" opposite Kevin Bacon, but that hasn't stopped the actor from reminiscing about his life as part of the "X-Men." At the premiere of "The Following," Fox's new thriller about a serial killer who develops a cult of followers, Ashmore told The Huffington Post he'd return to the mutant movie franchise if asked to reprise the role of Bobby Drake, better known as Iceman, in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." However, he hasn't heard whether the Iceman will cometh. "Honestly, at this point I have no idea," Ashmore said. "What's exciting is Bryan Singer's back, which is amazing. He was amazing to work with. I would love to come back and play Bobby again. I played the part three times, I got to grow up playing that part, which is incredible. It's so rare. If it happens, i would love to play that part. The moving is happening, so I have to wait and see how it all comes together." "X-Men: Days of Future Past" mar ...
