'Star Trek: Discovery' Will Feature A Brand New Gay Character
Huffington Post - 3 months
History was made in the “Star Trek” universe earlier this year when beloved character Hikaru Sulu was revealed to be gay in the latest big-screen installment of the iconic franchise. Although that move divided Trekkies, the universe is about to get even more inclusive. Stage and screen star Anthony Rapp has joined the cast of CBS’s “Star Trek: Discovery” as Lt. Stamets, an “astromycologist,” fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer who also happens to be gay, Entertainment Weekly reports. Also joining the lineup of “Discovery,” which will debut in May 2017 and is the first new “Star Trek” series since “Enterprise,” are Michelle Yeoh and Doug Jones, with additional casting to be announced by CBS in the coming weeks, according to Variety.   Rapp, who is best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in the smash Broadway musical, “Rent,” expressed his excitement about the new project on Twitter.  So proud to be a part of this journey. I'm a longtime fan and supe ...

Ice Age: Collision Course
Huffington Post - 7 months
It's official. This is the year of animation. So many films from the genre are sprouting up like spring daisies that it's making the Oscar race for Best Animation Feature Film a nail-biter. And it's only midyear. Add to the list of strong contenders the fifth chapter in the Ice Age franchise, a doozy of a yarn that couples the creation of the planets with earth's impending doom by a runaway meteor. The farfetched story gives kids a crash course in astronomy and planetary science, while they follow the antics of their favorite prehistoric animals. (Photo courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox) This fantasy adventure film is squarely aimed at children and tweens. Very mild action, silly perilous situations, comic violence and rude humor that never crosses the line. You could show this film at a Sunday school fundraiser and not be embarrassed. For adults who crave double entendres that go over their offspring's heads--no dice. The script by Michael Wilson, Michael Berg and Yoni Brenne ...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Greatest Review Ever
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the greatest motion picture in the history of cinéma -- that's fairly obvious -- but it's also humanity's only hope for salvation, as a people, as a species, as life forms adrift in a savage and utterly inconvenient field of reality. Indeed, the Force may have been taking a little nap (apparently the energy field that binds the universe together hit 'Snooze' for 32 1/2 years), but now it's back, and it's a hit, it's a classic, it's the answer to all our prayers -- even the prayers of people who don't pray. It's that good. It's so good, it makes me want to dust off the very finest critic terms, such as "bravura" and "painterly" and "tour de force." I've gotten so excited typing these first few lines that I had to take a shower and go for a little walk. But I'm back -- and as noted so is Star Wars: bigger, better, faster, stronger, oh, heck: The Force Awakens is no mere "movie" -- it's the single greatest work of art produced since the discovery of fire ...

Justin Lin Confirms There Are No Klingons In 'Star Trek Beyond'
Huffington Post - about 1 year
"Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin is officially taking "Star Trek" boldly where it's never gone before, and part of that is bringing in entirely new villains. Writer Simon Pegg already denied that Idris Elba would play a Klingon in the upcoming "Star Trek Beyond," but fans remain skeptical over what happened on the previous film, "Star Trek Into Darkness." For that movie, it was rumored Benedict Cumberbatch would play Khan, everyone denied it and ... yeah ... turns out he was Khan. D'oh! So is Elba playing a Klingon? Well, director Lin finally shut down that noise once and for all to The Huffington Post. "No, [Idris Elba] is not a Klingon," says Lin with a laugh. "I think you know it’s been a great -- 'Trek's' been around for 50 years, Klingons are a big part of 'Trek.' When I signed on, I just felt like there was more to this than Klingons. I think there are other species we can explore, so I can safely tell you that there’s no Klingon to be had in this chapter." So ...

It's likely that at some point in your life, you've hummed the "Mission: Impossible" theme to yourself.
