Huffington Post - about 1 year
12.9.15 #SongBlogIV (my song of the day): "White Iverson (Remix)" by Post Malone ft. French Montana and Slim Jimmy In a year where there were rap feuds (Meek Mill and Drake) and controversy, a few rappers were able to get a breakout hit. Post Malone was no different. Called "the most random success" by the Fader magazine, Post Malone's first single is a great one. This remix featuring French Montana and Slim Jimmy (Rae Sremmurd) is even better. SEE: http://www.thefader.com/2015/05/14/everything-you-need-to-know-about-post-malone One thing that is important to note however, is that Post Malone is this breakout rapper from Dallas this year (and in a while, quite honestly). But there are a couple more Dallas rappers you should check out. Here are 4 Dallas rappers you may have not heard of and/or you should revisit: 1. The D.O.C: It's Funky He's worked with heavyweights - Dr. Dre, N.W.A. You might have also seen him portrayed on this year's Straight Outta Compton. ...

Slim Thug, LeToya Luckett Gearing Up For 'Love & Hip Hop' Houston?
MTV News - over 3 years
By Sowmya Krishnamurthy First New York, then Atlanta and now, it looks like "Love & Hip Hop" is heading down south to Houston, Texas. The YBF shares that the reality show will get an H-Town spin-off and rappers Slim Thug and Willie D of the Geto Boys are set to star on the show. The site adds that Slim Thug's ex girlfriend, LeToya Luckett of Destiny's Child fame, will also be on board. Slim and LeToya broke up when he allegedly impregnated another woman so expect serious drama in this storyline. In 2011, Slim openly shared that he got another woman pregnant and that was the cause of the break up. As of now, Slim Thug is denying being on the show but that could be due to contractual reasons. "That #LHHH thing is a rumor" he tweeted (notably using the hashtag) and added, "Well At least the part that says I'm on it." Other cast members rumored to be a part of the show include stripper-turned-aspiring performer Jhonni Blaze (who calls herself the Queen of Houston on Twit ...

Beyonce Shows Her Houston Roots
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Just weeks after Beyonce debuted "Bow Down / I Been On," a remix has dropped. Led by Houston rapper Bun B, the "I Been On" remix premiered on Houston's KBXX's 97.9 on Friday -- take a listen above. The gritty track also features verses from Scarface, Lil KeKe, Slim Thug, Willie D, and Z-Ro. With lines such as "This is Texas, Texas," verses in the remix celebrate the Houston roots of Beyonce and the rappers featured on the track. Bun B tweeted at his fellow collaborators on Friday night, nodding to Houston in the tweet. Beyonce's original "Bow Down" single has already caused its own fair share of controversy. The track was slammed by Keyshia Cole, who questioned Beyonce's stance on female empowerment by saying, "First 'women need to stick together' now bitches better bow." The song also caught heat from conservative pundit Rush Limbaugh who interpreted the lyrics to "Bow Down" as Beyonce saying she was bowing down to her husband, Jay-Z. "Bow Down / I Been ...

Swishahouse Archived At Rice University: Slim Thug, Paul Wall Proud To Make History
MTV News - over 4 years
By Maurice Bobb Hip-hop was officially put on notice by Houston recording label Swishahouse back in 2005, when its biggest triumvirate, Mike Jones, Paul Wall and Slim Thug, exploded onto the Billboard charts with the seminal hit, “Still Tippin’,” which was originally released on the imprint’s compilation album, The Day Hell Broke Loose 2. Now Swishahouse, one of the pioneers of H-Town’s signature "chopped and screwed" sound, is the first hip-hop label to have its materials archived by Rice University's Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning (CERCL), part of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research. The memorabilia, which includes music from the early days of Swishahouse, vintage pictures and posters, will chronicle the origin and achievements of the label for past, present and future scholarly hip-hop aficionados. “We are delighted to be able to initiate this effort with the materials brought to us by Swishahouse," Anthony Pinn, the Professor of Humanities and Relig ...

Big K.R.I.T. Brings 'Live From The Underground' To NYC With Slim Thug, Tito Lopez
MTV News - over 4 years
By Sowmya Krishnamurthy The Big Apple received a dose of Southern hospitality last night when Big K.R.I.T. brought his Live from the Underground tour to Irving Plaza. A slew of openers set the stage including newcomer Tito Lopez and most notably, Houston's Slim Thug. In addition to his own repertoire of songs like "Thug," "Like a Boss" and the remix to "Draped Up," Slim Thugga surprised the audience with Swishahouse associate Paul Wall, who joined him onstage for "Still Tippin'" (yet unfortunately, sans Mike Jones). K.R.I.T. started his set with an energetic frenzy and although he said it was his fifth show in NYC, the Mississippi native rapped like he had something still to prove. He touched upon beloved mixtape cuts like "Just Touched Down," "Hometown Hero" and "Moon & Stars" as well as more recent album fare, "Money on the Floor" and "Pull Up" featuring Big Sant. He even sang, sometimes acapella at that, during "The Vent" and "Highs & Lows." It was certainly not a sh ...

Prince Wanted By The IRS
Huffington Post - over 4 years
The recording artist Prince appears to have thumbed his nose at both the Internal Revenue Service and the French. Acting on behalf of French tax authorities, the IRS summoned Prince -- né Prince Rogers Nelson -- to make an appearance with the tax man in order to determine if he owed taxes to France for performances in that country in 2009 and 2010, according to Bloomberg. But the recording star was a no-show for the recent summons request. A court has been asked to enforce the matter. Prince also has had tax troubles in his home state of Minnesota and had to make amends for $1.3 million in delinquent property taxes he owed for 2009 and 2010. Tax troubles are nothing new for musicians. Lauryn Hill, who has won eight Grammy awards, pleaded guilty in June for not paying taxes on $1.5 million she earned over three years. R. Kelly also has a history of tax avoidance. The Chicago-born R&B singer owes nearly $5 million in upaid taxes, dating back as far as 2005, ...

“Psycho P” Pilar Gets Released From Jail After Catching Fade With Deion Sanders And Now Might Be Homeless
Bossip - almost 5 years
When will the drama end? We earlier reported on Pilar catching fade with Deion in front of their children. But it looks like “Psycho P” has been freed but could be without a home to return to. Via TMZ reports: Deion Sanders’ estranged wife has just been released from jail after her domestic violence arrest yesterday — and she’s forbidden from returning home … for the next 60 days. A judge issued an emergency protective order against Pilar Sanders today before releasing her from custody, banning her from entering the ex-couple’s Texas mansion for the next two months. She’s also prohibited from threatening or harassing any member of the family. But on her way out of jail, Pilar told reporters, “I am innocent. I understand that I have a very little chance at beating a Hall of Fame, two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore. I am a full-time mom 100 percent for my children and I have just not gotten a fair shake.” As we previously reported … Pilar was arrested afte ...
