Live updates from the Group B match at Eden Park, Auckland Ali Martin: ten talking points from the third week Dileep Premachandran: MS Dhoni calmly steers India on to cruise control Email nick.miller@theguardian.com or tweet @NickMiller79 6.39am GMT 11th over: South Africa 67-3 (Rossouw 0, De Villiers 0) - South Africa require another 165 runs to win Here’s AB, and Riaz greets him with a cracking shortish one that acts as a cricketing version of smelling salts, at least letting the new man know he’s awake. No runs though, and a second wicket maiden in a row has given Pakistan a sniff. 6.36am GMT Now then. Wahab Riaz is the new bowler, and he strikes first up as Amla tries a late cut that is a little too late, arriving only in time to nick one through to the keeper who takes a brilliant one-handed catch down to his right. There’s a brief moment where the umpires check it carried, even though it very clearly had. Makes it interesting, at least. 6.34am GMT 10th over: Sou ...

Celebrating birthdays during World Cup
Yahoo News - about 2 years
Kolkata, Feb 13 (IANS) The world's most recognised song 'Happy Birthday to You' will be an integral part of the cricket World Cup too, starting Saturday. Cricket's biggest extravaganza, which has roped in all the star players from 14 top sides, may well be the stage for all or some of these players to cut their birthday cakes on either Australian or New Zealand soil, provided their teams are not knocked out early from the tournament. On a day when Pakistan will face Zimbabwe at the Gabba March 1, veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi will turn 35. Right-arm pacers Sohail Khan (March 6th) and Ehsan Adil (March 15th) will celebrate their birthdays too during the tournament, with Adil's birthday coinciding with Pakistan's pool encounter against Ireland in Adelaide.

The Express Tribune Blogs - over 3 years
KARACHI:  Having not donned the national colour for almost three years now, left-handed batsman Fawad Alam has questioned his endless snub from the national team despite being a consistent performer in the domestic circuit. Alam, who struck a century on his Test debut against Sri Lanka in 2009, played just two more games the same year before being discarded from the longer version. He scored 250 runs from these matches at an average of just below 42. The 27-year-old last represented Pakistan in a Twenty20 game against New Zealand in December 2010 and his last One-Day International (ODI) game was against South Africa, a month ago in Dubai. He averages around 38 in the 27 matches he played. Since his snub, the middle-order batsman has regularly featured in domestic events for his departmental and regional teams. He also had a notable last season as he averaged over 66 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with a total of 534 runs from ten innings f ...

Red carpet: B-Town birthday hits and misses
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 3 years
Several Bollywood stars were spotted at Sridevi’s 50th birthday bash looking like fashion disasters. While one would expect big names from showbiz to up the ante and put their most stylish foot forward, most of these celebs shocked us with their fashion choices. Sridevi The birthday girl herself, who mostly looks glamorous, did not maintain her usual elegance. In her silk Prabal Gurung floral printed dress, she failed to make an impression. The open hair could have been tied up for a more formal look. The dress is better suited for day events, and the fitting is not complementing her figure at all — no points for no grace. Genelia D’souza Genelia D’souza looked good in her red Gauri and Nainika dress. Her light make-up gives her an au-natural look that balances out that lace at the neck (which we don’t quite love), but at least it’s saving her from looking too over-the-top. Her black heels are simple and unexciting and the Alexander McQuee ...
