Don Lemon Says He Would Probably Be Like Malcolm X If He Wasn't A Journalist
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Don Lemon’s on-air reporting has often made the newsman a headline topic himself, but it appears the CNN anchor is unfazed by critics. In the past, Lemon's coverage on news stories such as the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370, where he questioned if the plan was swallowed up by a "black hole" left many viewers -- including CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker -- a bit annoyed.   In the November 22 issue of The New York Times magazine,  Lemon defended his on-air style. As he sees it, he says he's simply performing his duties as a journalist and doesn’t get offended by anyone’s opinion. “Instead of being offended or defensive or whatever, I try to be curious about why that person feels that way, why someone has that particular opinion,” he said. “I understand people being offended and hurt, but as a journalist, I gotta move beyond that. I can’t do that.” Last month, Lemon earned criticism after a heated on-air debate with former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin, about a ...

What to Watch Tonight: Vikings, the Debuts of American Crime and Dig, and Scandal
Yahoo News - almost 2 years

But Amy is none too pleased at the prospect of losing her beau to the Red Planet. In other relationship pickles, Leonard surprises Penny within a ribald gift and Raj goes a-snooping in Emily's pad. 8pm, ABC Grey's Anatomy A gallery full of doctors watches Amelia and Stephanie operate on Dr. Herman in "The Distance," but honestly most of them are just there to see Katy Perry and Left Shark perform at halftime. With Dr. Herman under the knife, Arizona takes on one of her cases, much to Bailey's consternation. 8pm, NBC The Slap Manolis is determined to pull the family back from the brink and persuade Aisha to forgive Harry. "Sometimes what you truly need to slap... is your pride," he'll solemnly intone, and then everyone will hug and we'll all get out of this thing four episodes early. ...

Dillard Brings Brain Food To The Masses With Renowned HBCU Lecture Series
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Dillard University will welcome renowned gospel artist Kirk Franklin to the campus on Feb 6., an appearance made possible by the university’s signature ‘Brain Food’ presidential lecture series. Franklin will be the latest in a cast of diverse, distinguished presenters on the historic New Orleans HBCU campus this semester, joining Martin Luther King Jr. speechwriter Clarence Jones, CNN Political Analyst Sunny Hostin, and faith-based social justice activist Jim Wallis. They are a part of a lecture series renaissance on HBCU campuses around the country, thanks to the success of its modern-day patron saint, Dillard President Walter Kimbrough. A scholar on Black Greek-lettered organizations and a veteran presenter on organizational hazing, Kimbrough helped to revive the HBCU lecture series as the former president of Philander Smith College. “It’s a great opportunity for students to hear key people of the day,” says Kimbrough, who assumed the Dillard presidency in July 2012. “HBCU stude ...

Celebrity Friends Give Best Holiday Gift Ideas for Under $50
Huffington Post - about 3 years
The holiday season symbolizes spending time with family and friends, eating food that we regret soon thereafter, and exchanging gifts on Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Gift giving can stress-out the most joyful holiday shopper. Everyone strives to give thoughtful and appreciated gifts without exceeding the spending budget. Yet, buying that perfect present for someone special (significant other, BFF, respected employer/employee) is far more taxing, emotionally and financially, than the $15 "Secret Santa" or Pollyanna gift purchased for the office party. It has been predicted that spending in 2013 will surpass that of 2012. Baynote/etailing group 2013 Holiday Survey: In 2012, holiday shoppers spent nearly $579 billion; the predicted 11% increase would push retail spending to more than $640 billion. Here's the breakdown from the inaugural Baynote/etailing group 2013 Holiday Survey: • Most retailers expect a slow start to the season with increased momentum throughout late Nove ...
