She was named after John's mother, Susanna Boylston Adams and called "Suky" by her father who adored her much. In a letter to Abigail on June 29, 1769, John made a request of Abigail, for "Suky": "Cant you contrive to go to Braintree to kiss my little Suky, for me?"
