No Room For Friendly Fire
Huffington Post - over 1 year
I was diagnosed with HIV in late 1991. Shortly after, I joined a support group in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Damien Center. The people I met there had lost everything for disclosing their status-family, friends, jobs, housing. I felt grateful, and guilty at times, listening to others' sad stories of loss and what they were afraid of losing--because I knew that I was supported in all areas of my life. I knew then that I had an obligation to share my HIV status on as many public stages as I could. My mission was (and still is) to tell my experience in an authentic and direct way. Every time I told my story it was met with love and gratitude for my openness to share my life. Over a 14-year period, I spoke at over 2000 universities, fraternity and sorority leadership conferences, and youth groups throughout North America. More than a million young people heard my story, all in an effort to break down the stigma of HIV and help others prevent themselves from "joining the club." During ...

Tamera Mowry-Housley: My Family Was Formed on Love, Not Color
Celebrity Babies - People - about 3 years
Jen Lowery/Splash News Online A new year meant a new ‘do for Tamera Mowry-Housley — but a mom-friendly “wash and go hairstyle” isn’t the only resolution on her list in 2014. She and her twin sister, Instant Mom star Tia Mowry-Hardrict, have enough resolutions for all 12 months. “I want to find a balance of family and work,” Mowry-Housley, 35, tells PEOPLE. “I think that when you find that balance it just makes things a lot easier.” Mowry-Hardrict — mom to 2½-year-old son Cree Taylor –agrees that continuing to make family the center of her life is key this year, but then there’s also the matter of that patch of grass in her yard. “I am working on having my own garden as we speak,” she adds. “A vegetable garden [filled with] tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and then some herbs like oregano — we love oregano in this family! I’m excited because I want my son to participate, he loves gardens.” Even more important than a personal and professional balance for Mowry-Housley — who ...

Hated For Marrying A White Man—Tamera Mowry Is Not Alone
VDARE - about 3 years
Topic:  On Topic This made my heart ache and my blood pressure spike: Actress Tamera Mowry, who is black, wept in an interview with Oprah Winfrey over the vile bigotry she has encountered because of her marriage to Fox News reporter Adam Housley, who is white. Misogynist haters called Mowry a sellout and a "white man's whore." International news outlets labeled the Internet epithets she endured "horrific" and "shocking." Horrific? Yes. Shocking? Not at all. What Mowry experienced is just a small taste of what the intolerance mob dishes out against people "of color" who love, think and live the "wrong" way. I've grown so used to it that I often forget how hurtful it can be. Mowry's candor was moving and admirable. It's also a valuable teachable moment about how dehumanizing it can be to work in the public eye. Have we really sunk to this? Young actresses in the 21st century forced to defend their love lives becau ...

Are 'Tia & Tamera' Identical Twins? Girls Get DNA Test To Find Out For Sure (VIDEO)
Huffington Post - over 3 years
After 35 years together, Tia and Tamera Mowry realized suddenly that they didn't know if they were actually identical twins. They'd assumed it -- they do look a lot alike, after all -- but had never gotten medical confirmation. And so, on the latest episode of "Tia & Tamera," they answered the question once and for all. Back in 1978, when the girls were born, there wasn't a way to know for sure, But now, there is a quick genetic test that will say one way or the other. They found themselves afraid that it would change everything if they discovered they were fraternal twins. “I’m afraid it’s going to say, ‘You’re not identical,’ and that thought really scares me. I would feel like my life was a lie," Tia admitted. But that's not what the test said. Tia read the results, "Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry share identical DNA profiles in all systems tested.” In other words, they are 100% identical twins. The DNA analyst told them that there could be any number of reasons why they don't loo ...

Tia And Tamera Are Fighting Again, As Sisters Tend To Do
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Like most sisters, Tia and Tamera Mowry fight all the time. Unlike most sisters, they are now doing so on national television. On their new show "Tia & Tamera," the famous twins fought over a miscommunication. Adrienne Bailon Slams Britney Spears
Huffington Post - over 3 years
The show is called "The Real" and co-host Adrienne Bailon is serious about keeping it that way. While discussing troubled former child stars, Bailon brought up Britney Spears, calling her "the pop princess who had the ultimate meltdown" on a recent show. The former "Cheetah Girl" knows a thing or two about being a former child star herself, and she wasn't about to mince words when it came to her opinion of Spears. "Britney Spears needs to call Miley Cyrus' stylist ASAP," Bailon said, as the now infamous image of Spears shaving her head from 2007 appeared onscreen. "I worked with her on 'X-Factor.' Not gonna lie to you guys, I would sit to do my interviews with Demi [Lovato]. I did, like, the behind-the-scenes stuff. She can't hold a conversation." Spears suffered a very public mental breakdown in 2008, and her father Jamie Spears was granted a conservatorship over her personal and financial decisions that remains in place to this day. It's her father's tight control ...

TWINSIES!
Huffington Post - over 3 years
We just love when Tia and Tamera Mowry dress alike -- it takes us back to their "Sister, Sister" days and consequently reminds us of our youth. So when Tia Mowry-Hardict stepped out in an adorable yellow Missoni sundress to fete her sassy new Peta campaign on Tuesday, it was an extra treat to see her identical twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley, sporting the same cheery hue. Tamera teamed a loose-fitting lemony tunic with a pair of leopard print jeans for the occasion. Grown women dressing in the same or similar outfits usually result in "bitch stole my look!" posts, but there's no sibling rivalry here -- the dynamic duo seem to love doing the whole twin-thing. Although the ladies have definitely cultivated individual styles over the years (from their clothes to their hair), from time to time they sartorially sync up. Here are the sisters looking lovely in yellow while attending the Peta campaign launch and make sure to check out the their super cute style evolution ...

'The Voice' Star Calls Out Obama For HIV/AIDS Funding Cuts
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Twenty-five years later, the story of one Los Angeles mother's fight to save her son from an AIDS-related death still resonates with Hollywood families. Celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and Tom Arnold came with small children Sunday to the 24th annual "A Time For Heroes" celebrity picnic fundraiser for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the global eradication of pediatric AIDS. Laid out on the Creative Artist Agency's lawn for the event was a simulated surfing ride and skateboard decorating for the older kids, carnival games and bubble machines for tots and musical performances on a main stage for all. The happy scene seemed worlds away from the AIDS crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, where most of the non-profit's programs are located. But for one celebrity attendee, the cause was deeply personal. Singer Jamar Rogers, 31, shot to fame as a semifinalist on the second season of NBC's "The Voice ...
