Wells, dubbed the first female superstar of country music, passed away on Monday (16Jul12) following complications from a stroke. Born Muriel Ellen Deason, she became the first woman to top the country music charts in 1952 with It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels and Wells was America's number one country female from 1953 to 1968, when Tammy Wynette claimed her crown.
