"Hacksaw Ridge" Is an Amazing Movie About Faith, Courage, Love and Patriotism
Huffington Post - 4 months
Movie Review - Jackie K Cooper "Hacksaw Ridge" (Lionsgate) "Hacksaw Ridge" is a movie hard to watch but also hard to forget. Mel Gibson directed this film based on the life of Desmond Doss, a young man from Virginia who served in World War II as a medic. He was also a conscientious objector who stated he would never touch a rifle or take anyone's life. This determination to serve his country but also hold fast to his beliefs makes for a film that touches the hearts and souls of audiences from its beginning to its end. The first half of the film serves as a set up to all that occurs in the second half. Andrew Garfield portrays Doss who is seen as a simple and naive young man. His father (Hugo Weaving) is a World War I veteran who is haunted by all that he saw in combat. He has turned to alcohol to try and hold off his demons. This is turn causes him to be emotionally and physically abusive to his wife (Rachel Griffiths) and his two sons. When Pearl Harbor is bom ...

Zombie films like Brad Pitt-starring 'World War Z' are delicious summer treats
LATimes - over 3 years
For sheer summer escape, it's hard to beat a good zombie flick. Good, bad, always ugly, the undead are a highly amusing genre as a whole. "Zombieland" from 2009, with Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone riding shotgun and Woody Harrelson wielding one, remains my favorite. "Warm Bodies," a clever hipster twist on the old trope starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer out earlier this year, comes close. But for now, consider indulging in the campy, eco-eccentric fun of Brad Pitt's battle with the undead, their teeth-chattering and bad hygiene giving "World War Z" its bite. And don't let the environmental message scare you either. Director Marc Forster understands it's the absurdities and the oddities that bring zombie movies to life. Something — virus, plague, aliens, a studio exec in need of a horror film in his portfolio — is causing the undead to rise in "WWZ." They have a swarming tendency, making giant hills of undead bodies with their undead buddies. So cool. The best is when they hit ...

"Love and Honor" review: Earnest but predictable soldier-in-love tale
Yahoo News - almost 4 years
By Leah Rozen LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - It is extraordinary how smoothly the Aussies do American accents. Liam Hemsworth ("The Hunger Games") and Teresa Palmer ("Warm Bodies"), two of the young actors holding down leading roles in this banal drama about love and friendship during the Vietnam War era, never once vocally betray their Antipodean origins. That a viewer is paying more attention to the accent in which they say their words than the words themselves is indicative of the wan appeal of "Love and Honor. ...

Melissa McCarthy's Identity Thief Debuts in First Place After Cruel Review About Her Weight
US Magazine - about 4 years
Melissa McCarthy is getting the last laugh. Just days after The New York Observer's film critic Rex Reed trashed the comedy Identity Thief -- and cruelly criticized McCarthy's plus-size figure -- the movie debuted in first place with an estimated $36.6 million.  Identity Thief, which also stars Jason Bateman, had the fifth-biggest opening ever for a non-sequel R-rated comedy. Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer's Warm Bodies fell one spot to second place with $11.5 million, besting Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara's Side Effects (No. 3, $10 million), Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence's Silver Linings Playbook (No. 4, $10 Million) and Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton's Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (No. 5, $5.8 million). PHOTOS: Funniest female stars in Hollywood Universal Pictures predicts Identity Thief could have made at least $40 million had it not been for the blizzard that hit the Northeast on Friday, Feb. 8. Movie Review: 'Warm Bodies' an Awesome Zombie Valentine
Burke Patch - about 4 years
No, it's not an ode to necrophilia. It is a charming and whimsical movie that goes deeper than anyone would expect about connectedness, trust and a willingness to change.  I never thought I'd say "this zombie flick is a great date movie," but now I have. As a matter of warning, it should be rated "Z" for brain-eating zombies. Still, a large cross-section of movie lovers will enjoy it, making it a far better choice February 14th than that new Diehard (coming out that day! Wah?), for everyone from girlfriends hanging out and Twihards, to couples who don't mind a bit of edge in their flicks.  Playing at Rave Cinemas Fairfax 14 and AMC Tysons Corner 16 To all those who have heard or bought into the press about it being a wannabe Twilight clone, I say yes, the Twihards will appreciate it. But it will be even more appreciated by all of us who grew tired of Twilight's whining and negativity (however much it was dressed in sparkle), and those of us who wanted to scream at that mopey s ...
