Even Vladimir Putin Had To Stand & Applaud Russian Figure Skating Prodigy Julia Lipnitskaia
Huffington Post - about 3 years
The 2014 Sochi Olympics have long been considered Vladimir Putin's Games but he seemed to willingly cede the spotlight briefly to 15-year-old figure skating prodigy Julia Lipnitskaia. The Russian president made an appearance at the Iceberg Skating Palace during the figure skating team event on Sunday. According to NBC announcer Terry Gannon, Putin arrived just before Lipnitskaia began her free program. ANDREJ ISAKOVIC/AFP/Getty Images WIth the home crowd behind her, Lipnitskaia delivered her second dazzling performance of Olympics. "And, yes, Vladimir Putin was on his feet at the end of that program," Gannon said moments before Lipnitskaia's score was revealed. YURI KADOBNOV/AFP/Getty Images Lipnitskaia's score of 72.90 vaulted her into first position in the ladies free program and clinched Russia's first gold medal of the 2014 Olympics. It didn't take long for Putin to get himself a photo opportunity with Russia's newest star. Robert Cianflone/Getty Images Photo by ...

WATCH: Lynx Head Coach Throws Fit, Jacket In WNBA Finals Game
Huffington Post Sports - over 4 years
The WNBA may live in the shadow of the NBA, but it's certainly not for a lack of talent or passion. Two games into the 2012 WNBA Finals, we've already seen some exhilarating basketball and fiery personalities. With her team losing a close game to the Indiana Fever in the Finals opener and the score tied in the third quarter of Game 2, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve showed her frustration when the referees failed to call a foul on a Minnesota fast break Thursday. Reeve had to be restrained, throwing her jacket and microphone at an assistant coach and getting her money's worth on a technical that gave the Fever a chance to break the tie on a foul shot. The Lynx, however, would overcome the non-call, pulling out an 83-71 win to even the series at 1-1 in their quest to defend their title. The incident didn't go unnoticed, though. "The coat came off quickly -- I'm not sure what was next," mused ESPN commentator Terry Gannon. Reeve had this to say about her actions ...

Nine Fingal sites for the children's hospital
Fingal Independent - almost 5 years
SITE 1: JAMES CONNOLLY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN BLANCHARDSTOWN Within Fingal County Council's jurisdiction, the local authority argues this site is extremely well positioned to accommodate the proposed national paediatric hospital (NPH) in that it has the advantage of providing co-location with an adult teaching hospital from the start. According to the council's submission: 'It is excellently positioned to avail of the national motorway road network, foul and surface water network, etc. Further, the lands are appropriately zoned and there is an abundance of additional lands available (in state ownership) for ancillary hospital campus support infrastructure/development.' The council concludes that the site ' could accommodate the existing designed Paediatric Hospital or any other configuration of it'. The submission to the review group states: 'Further, we believe in time that the merits of co-locating a new maternity hospital adjacent and connected to the proposed paediatric hospital will ...
