Season Two of "The Expanse" Will Rock Your World(s)
Huffington Post - about 1 month
I fell in love with aliens and outer space in second grade. No, I wasn't abducted. Not exactly. My brother was a big fan of Golden Age science fiction and once I started browsing through the Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Arthur C. Clark books he borrowed from our local library, I was hooked. I was able to read well beyond my grade level in elementary school, and the stories weren't just more exciting than the lifeless "age-appropriate" books I was assigned at school. I was a first generation American, unlike everyone in all of my classes, and those thrilling library books spoke to my sense of being a stranger in a strange land. I felt welcomed, I felt liberated. I didn't know back then that I was reading some of America's finest writers in the genre, but they set a very high standard for me. That taste for superlative science fiction has stayed with ever since, and I've always been thrilled to find a new writer, a new movie, a new series that satisfies it. I've lost tr ...

'Punisher' Fan Film Gets Shut Down By Marvel
MTV News - over 3 years
By Alex Zalben We’ve been eagerly anticipating the Punisher fan film “The Dead Can’t Be Distracted” since it was announced a few months ago. But now, after a cease and desist letter from Marvel, it looks like the film will never see the light of day. And even more importantly and portentously, what does this mean for the future of fan films – and the future of Punisher on the big screen? That’s a lot of questions, but first a bit of history. In a five page long open letter on his website, creator Mike Pecci extensively runs through the production, development, and eventual demise of “The Dead Can’t Be Distracted.” It’s a fascinating read full of a lot of tech info on filming, and even a few shots and a screen test. In fact, given that Marvel wrote a cease and desist stating: "While we appreciate your affection for the character, we must demand that you immediately stop your unauthorized use, advertising, sale and/or distribution of any production of The Punisher or any other Ma ...

Jason Reitman Wants Adam Sandler To Star In 'Men, Women & Children'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Jason Reitman, the man with two Best Director nominations out of four released feature films, wants to get in the Adam Sandler business. That's the news from Toronto, where Reitman is putting together an adaptation of Chad Kultgen's novel "Men, Women & Children" with the hope of casting Sandler, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jennifer Garner in lead roles. (Cameron Diaz was mentioned by TheWrap as a possibility as well.) Published in June of 2011, "Men, Women & Children" "explores the sexual pressures of junior high school students and their parents navigating the internet’s shared landscape of pornography, blogs, social networking, and its promise of opportunities, escapes, reinvented identities, and unexpected conflicts." According to THR, Reitman has already written the script for "Men, Women & Children" and will likely shoot the film in November. That makes the fourth quarter of 2013 even busier for the 35-year-old, as his latest film, "Labor Day," is set for release by Paramoun ...

Stephen Amell: I Didn't Tell My Parents I Played a Male Prostitute in Hung
US Magazine - almost 4 years
Before Stephen Amell was cast as the hero in Arrow, the actor played second fiddle to Thomas Jane on HBO's Hung. "In the hung hierarchy, I was the less hung guy," Amell joked on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno Apr. 23. "I made up for it with enthusiasm. I played Jason, the young, sweet, enthusiastic hooker." On his first day of work, the 31-year-old was asked to disrobe on camera. Though sex scenes can intimidate some actors, Amell wasn't concerned about being nude on set. "The only person it would be weird with is your parents. But you don't say to them, 'I'm playing a hooker on TV,'" he explained. "You say, 'I'm on a TV show.' 'What channel is it on?' 'HBO.' 'What's it about?' 'Ehh. . . Detroit?'" PHOTOS: See Stephen Amell's six-pack abs and chiseled chest Amell added that he didn't like being covered up during nude scenes -- mostly because he hated the sock male actors wear to cover their genitals. "It's more of a pouch. It's terrible. I'd rather be naked. It's embarrassing, ...

Marvel’s Greatest Hits & Misses
On The Box - almost 5 years
Avengers Assemble is out this week and it’s a triumph – the best Marvel film so far. In fact Marvel have done a pretty good job in brining their comic book properties to the big screen. Not always, it’s easier to remember hte triumphs than the failures. But with that in mind, let’s take at look at some of Marvel’s other successes… and failures…   Heroes Iron Man (2008) We need an actor who can portray self-righteous arrogance while still being likable and not unbearable….hmmm…tough call.  Oh wait, no it’s not.  Step forward Robert Downey Jr. perfectly cast as everyone’s favourite billionaire playboy philanthropist.   Boasting an excellent AC/DC soundtrack, and some seriously sexy gadgetry, Iron Man was sleek, funny and most importantly fun. Thor (2011) April 2011 saw the arrival of the hammer-wielding, blond-barnetted son of Asgard, Thor.  With its campy aesthetic and huge sets (not to mention Thor’s preposterous haircut and bulging biceps), this could easily ha ...
