Should Your Student Treat The ACT/SAT Like A Class?
Huffington Post - 7 months
By Adam Lawrence and Ishan Puri With the school year fast approaching, it's time for students to begin thinking about how to prepare for the ACT and/or SAT. One question that we regularly receive at Prep Expert and Synocate is: "Should my student treat the ACT and/or SAT the same as they do a class?" It's a great question, and one that we feel confident answering as part of two of the fastest growing education companies around the globe. The SAT and ACT are phenomenal tools for colleges. With the rapid inflation of high school GPAs across the country, these tests have remained an important metric -- particularly for elite institutions -- to weigh the credentials of prospective students against one another. That isn't to suggest that these tests are more important than GPAs. For the most part, many universities care about grades and academic performance more than any other component of a student's resume, with some less traditional colleges moving away from standardi ...

He's Back!

Terry O'Quinn may have had a rough year, but "Lost" fans know you can't keep Locke down for long. Deadline reports that the actor has replaced Emmy winner Tom Berenger in the Fox pilot "Gang Related." The pilot centers on gang member Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), who is sent to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department. O'Quinn will play Sam Chapel, "a tough, dynamic police chief who oversees the Gang Task Force," according to Deadline. In the 2012-2013 TV season, O'Quinn starred opposite Vanessa Williams in ABC's now-canceled "666 Park Ave." Before the show premiered, Vulture asked the actor why he joined the series. "I like working in television, a lot. I really enjoyed my time on 'Lost,'" O'Quinn explained. But he knows the show, on which he played the mysterious John Locke, set a difficult precedent for his work to come. "I don't think anything's going to be 'Lost.' That was a one-off phenomenon, I think. It would be putting too much of a burden on '666' ...

Why the SalemSox are still compelling — even without Jackie
Roanoke.com - over 4 years
Earlier this month, speedy Salem Red Sox outfielder Matty Johnson was asked to give his impressions of teammate Jackie Bradley Jr. Bradley had just delivered another one of his typical performances – a couple of walks, a pair of hits, a spectacular catch in the outfield that he’d made look routine. Johnson shook his head in amazement. “I’ve never seen a player that can excite me like he can,” Johnson said. So what the heck are we supposed to do now? The thrill is gone! Salem’s loss is the gain of Portland, Maine. Bradley was promoted to the Double-A outpost during the Carolina League All-Star break after hitting .359 with a .480 on-base percentage in the first half. That means the Sox will play the home portion of their second half schedule – starting at 7:05 Thursday against Potomac — without their affable sparkplug atop the lineup. Bummer. Take heart, though. Plenty of reasons remain to come to the park. Among them: “SIX A YOU BOYS ‘GAINST ME” For those wondering, ...

Jackie K. Cooper: Hatfields & McCoys Puts the History Channel on the Map
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
The History Channel puts itself on the great entertainment section of the cable map with the production of Hatfields & McCoys, a three part mini-series. Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton head the cast and both men give very balanced and nuanced portrayals. Directed by Kevin Reynolds, this mini-series is the best I have seen since the days of Lonesome Dove. Sometimes mini-series are drawn out and suffer from the length taken, but not Hatfields & McCoys. This story needs the full range of all three nights to give a complete telling of what happened and why. Details are needed to fully present this story concerning the growth of the feud between the two families. It didn't happen overnight; the two patriarchs of their clans even started off as friends and fellow soldiers in the rebel cause. Things begin to go wrong when "Devil" Hatfield (Costner) deserts the army and Randall McCoy (Paxton) knows of the desertion. Randall ends up in a union prison and suffers mightily b ...
