Pretty Much Every Young Male Actor Is Auditioning To Play Han Solo
Huffington Post - about 1 year
The search for a new Han Solo is rapidly becoming America's biggest thirst trap.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, an astonishing 2,500 actors are auditioning to play a young Solo in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller's upcoming, as-yet-untitled "Star Wars" spinoff movie, which is slated for release in May 2018. We're not talking about randos lining up outside the Disney lot here. At least not exclusively. Many of the hottest (young, white, male) actors in Hollywood are gunning for the part: Miles Teller, Logan Lerman, Dave Franco, Ansel Elgort, Ed Westwick, Rami Malek, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Even Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" movies!  The plot of the movie -- which Lord and Miller are playfully referring to as "Red Cup," as in, you know, Solo cups -- is as yet a tightly kept secret. All we know so far is that it's an origin story for Han Solo.  But it's not hard to figure out why so many actors want the role. Playing Han Solo in 1977's "Star ...

'Full Circle' review: Old play comes around again
San Francisco Chronicle - over 3 years
Neil LaBute is bringing his provocative view of human relationships to DirecTV with "Full Circle," a 10-episode drama about people you probably wouldn't want to spend 10 minutes with. The episodes, which correspond to scenes in "La Ronde," take place in a restaurant too preciously named Ellipsis, with the opening scene pairing unhappily married Bridgette (Minka Kelly, "Friday Night Lights"), with her lover, Tim (Tom Felton, "Harry Potter"). Critics often get one or two episodes of a normally structured series, but in this case, sending four "scenes" of LaBute's "play" is equivalent to sending Act 1, Scene 1; Act 4, Scene 6; and Act 5, Scene 2 of "Hamlet." [...] in the next episode, entertainment lawyer Stanley meets his obnoxious, homophobic, misogynistic client, Jace (David Boreanaz, "Bones"), a standup comic. No one comes off as very likable in the four episodes sent to critics, but all the characters are fascinating, often as much for what we suspect about their inner nature as ...

Melinda Emerson: Start Your Crowdfunding Campaign With a Marketing Plan
Huffington Post - over 3 years
When asked by an acquaintance to support his crowdfunding campaign for his film starring Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, I jumped at the chance.  The film, From the Rough, focuses on the true story of an African-American woman who founded a men’s golf team at Tennessee State University that went on to win a collegiate championship. Already in the can, my friend wants to raise enough funds through Indiegogo for a multi-city release. It’s an impressive project, but it is going to take more than my support for this funding campaign successfully reach its goal of raising $250,000 in 45 days. You must start your crowdfunding campaign with a marketing plan. So what is it going to take to get that money?  First, know that 30 percent of the initial donations will come from people you know. BurgerBusiness: The McMuffin Gets Its Turn In The Spotlight
Huffington Post - about 4 years
If McDonald's is serious about importing more menu ideas from its stores around the world then breakfast could become much more interesting. Outside the U.S. the humble McMuffin is getting a turn in the spotlight. Japan stores are offering a new stacked-up Mega McMuffin with double the sausage, as one part of the annual Big America All-Stars promotion. In Germany, the English muffin is the platform for a new McMuffin BBQ Pork breakfast item. The intended hero of Japan's Big America promotion is the Texas Burger, which has a three-piece bun but only a single burger patty. With it are two types of mustard, barbecue sauce, fried onions, bacon and cheese. Coming next is an Idaho burger topped with a hash-brown potato patty. These are recycled ideas for McDonald's there, but extending Big America across the menu is new. Also included are American-style Ranch dipping sauce for McNuggets, a packet of "American BBQ" seasoning to shake on fries and a blueberry shake. Coming ...

5 Things To Do Before Seeing 'The Apparition'
MTV News - over 4 years
by Jessica Marshall We know that natural predators like bears and bees can smell fear, but the big bad super-natural predator in "The Apparition" sees right into your fearful soul, and feeds off your terror like a it was a bacon-wrapped, cocaine-laced donut. "The Apparition" stars Alice—er—Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan as a young couple who find themselves terrorized in their new home by an evil presence (see above reference to the donut) that they later learn was conjured in a university parapsychology experiment gone awry. The film is centered around the urban legend that you can create supernatural horrors just by believing them into existence, hence the tagline "Once you believe, you die." Tom Felton of "Harry Potter" fame co-stars as a supernatural expert—who was present during the aforementioned experiment—that the young couple calls on for help. It's full of thrills, chills and good, old-fashioned, pants-pooping jump-scares, and hits theaters this week. Before you risk ...
