Meaning of Last Name

Han is a common transliteration of the Chinese surname 韩 (simp.) or 韓 (trad.), pronounced Hán, and the Korean surname 한 (hanja 韓). The spelling "Han" is based on China's pinyin system and so used throughout Mainland China. Spelling can vary from 'Hon' in Cantonese-speaking areas to 'Hang' in Hainan.
