Sting And His Wife Are Still In The Honeymoon Phase 24 Years Later
Huffington Post - 5 months
We’ve been rocking out to Sting’s music for ages but in a sweet interview, the singer revealed the one thing that rocks his world.  “Somebody said to me the other day: ‘Who is the most impressive person you have ever met?’ I said: ‘I think I’m married to her.’ She rocks me,” the 64-year-old said in an interview with People.  Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, will celebrate 24 years of marriage this year and have been together for many more.  “He’s always evolving, always surprising me,” Styler said. “I feel like we’re still on a beautiful adventure together.” Though keeping things fresh seems to be a key ingredient to their lasting union, the couple, who married in 1992, do, however, have annual tradition they’ve kept up for nearly 20 years. They spend each anniversary at their Tuscan estate and plan to this year as well. Though the couple’s commitment to their marriage appears rock-solid, they do admit that they have to work at it, especially when they are busy juggl ...

9/11, Stacey McGowan, Kristy Irvine Ryan, Sting and Me...
Huffington Post - 5 months
I had the privilege to work for Sandler O'Neill & Partners at 2 World Trade Center on the 104th floor in New York City. So many great colleagues worked there, Kristy Irvine Ryan and Stacey McGowan were among the finest. Stacey McGowan was a talented equity trader who specialized in bank stocks, Kristy Irvine Ryan was her trusted and invaluable assistant. Both women possessed disarmingly beautiful smiles and an abundance of talent in the rough and tumble atmosphere of a Wall Street trading desk. Neither Stacey nor Kristy were shrinking violets in any way, manner or form and they were formidable assets to the firm. As talented as they were at work, their after work activities were as impressive. Kristy started Secret Smiles in 1998 with two of her closest friends, Meredith Hassett and Louise Ryan. Meredith was a teacher in Harlem who learned of a destitute, struggling single mother whose child was going to have a Grinch-like Christmas. She told the mother to write down what she nee ...

Beyond Bono: Music and Philanthropy
Huffington Post - about 1 year
I wish I could sing, and belt out every feeling like Nina Simone or sing a love letter to my daughter like Paul Simon. I love music and have long been impressed with the artists that enrich our world in so many ways. A while back I started exploring the idea of writing a thoughtful compilation of the efforts in philanthropy made by the music industry. The deeper I dug, the more I uncovered a world of beautiful people destined to create, heal, and challenge humanity to be better. Musicians give us the soundtrack to our lives and define our times, and can also show us how to truly make an impact by giving back. John Legend performed at an event benefitting nonprofit organization Common Threads. Photo courtesy of Common Threads. This is a topic that I have visited and revisited over the last few years. Through my research it became clear that the music industry's cup of givers is flowing over, full of inspiring individuals making the world a better place. "Perhaps the artist be ...

Sting's Child Eliot Sumner: I Don't Identify With Either Gender
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Eliot Sumner, the child of Sting and Trudie Styler, identifies as non-gendered.  The 25-year-old, who previously presented as female, identified simply as a "musician" in an interview with The Evening Standard, and stated, "I don't believe in any specifications."  "I think forever I was trying to figure out maybe … what I am," Sumner said. "But I don’t think anyone should feel pressured to have any kind of label or tag on them ... Me, I don’t like to be put down to a specific thing. We’re all human beings.”  Sumner was quick to specify that the interview should not considered a public coming out in any way, and said, "I’ve never come out to anyone. My friends always knew and I always knew.” The article cited Sumner as "she," although the singer-songwriter was not quoted as having suggested the use of an alternative pronoun.  The singer-songwriter is currently in a relationship with a woman. Austrian model Lucie Von Alten and Sumner have been dating for two years, accor ...

5 Older Celebs Get Real About Sex After 50
Huffington Post - over 1 year
People over 50 aren't just older and wiser -- they also know a thing or two about mind-blowing sex. After all, practice makes perfect.  Here are five older celebs and their blush-inducing lessons on sex: 1. Jane Fonda, 77, has been in a relationship with music producer Richard Perry, 73, since 2009.  “If you have been celibate for a long time and then begin a new love affair, be aware that your vagina is likely to need some attention.”   2. Betty White, 93, was married to TV personality Allen Ludden from 1963 until his death in 1981. When asked about marrying again, White said, "When you've had the best, who needs the rest." "I'm still just as horny as I've ever been."   3. Lisa Rinna, 52, has been married to actor Harry Hamlin, 63, since 1997. "We're kinky as hell in bed."   4. John Stamos, 52, was previously married to actress Rebecca Romijn.  “I’d rather have a woman have ten orgasms than me have ten orgasms.”    5.  Sting, 63, has b ...

Dressed to Die For: Mary-Louise Parker in The Snow Geese, Trudie Styler in an Anglo-Irish The Seagull, Marin Ireland in Marie Antoinette
Huffington Post - over 3 years
In Sharr White's new play The Snow Geese at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater, Mary-Louise Parker as Elizabeth wears black, in mourning for her dead husband, but really she is attired in Jane Greenwood's circa 1917 period detail, eh weeds, for a lost way of life. Under Daniel Sullivan's direction, a family who thinks it has money, now doesn't. Two brothers (Evan Jongkeit and Brian Cross, both very fine) vie in Oedipal conflict. Max Hohmann (Danny Burstein), a doctor put out of business because he is German, administers laudanum while his wife and Elizabeth's sister Clarissa (Victoria Clark) keeps everyone in line. The pretty Ukrainian maid Victoria (Jessica Love) learns to make coffee, now that she's a refugee from former upper class wealth. A gun brandished, fires off. Wild geese fly afrenzy as if in Hitchcock's The Birds. As soon as you know the house will go, you are in Chekhov country, even though the setting is rural New York. But geographic and psychic dislocation also mark Thomas ...

Lori Sokol: Turning Tragedy Into Triumph - From Behind the Curtain
Huffington Post - over 3 years
It was a star-studded Gala in early-June when the Culture Project theater, located at 45 Bleecker Street in New York City, was renamed the Lynn Redgrave Theater in honor of the late Ms. Redgrave, who appeared in the theater's 2005 production of Nightingale . But beyond the evening's red carpet arrivals of such public figures as Vanessa Redgrave, Trudie Styler, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, the event was a much more personal one for the Culture Project's founder, Allan Buchmann. Perhaps it was because he wanted to "create something relevant to the challenges many people face," or because his daughter "experienced a lack of opportunities as a woman in theater" that Allan launched the Culture Project in 1996 as its Founder and Artistic Director. Regardless of the reasons, however, the Culture Project has successfully fostered innovative collaborations between human rights organizations and artists. "We aim to inspire and impact public dialogue, while encouraging democratic p ...

Mike Hogan: Brad Pitt's World War Z Isn't Just 'Mayhem Porn'
The Huffington Post - almost 4 years
I saw World War Z last night at a small screening at the MoMA. There were a few journalists, some industry types and a pretty large collection of celebrities: Bruce Willis and his wife, Emma Heming; Sting and Trudie Styler; Kevin Bacon; Jemima Kirke; one of the Olsen twins (I can never tell which I'm looking at); Oliver Stone; and Darren Aronofsky, in front of whom I humiliated myself at the post-party by mistaking him for screenwriter Damon Lindelof. ("You owe me one!," he said, laughing, as he walked away. Indeed I do.) Before seeing the film, I read the Vanity Fair cover story about how the filmmakers scrapped the original ending and created a whole new one, written on very short notice by Lindelof and his friend Drew Goddard and shot with about 20 actors. Once you've read the VF story, you'll be able to see where the shift happens -- it's just over an hour in, when Pitt leaves Jerusalem on a plane. I don't want to spoil the movie, so I'll just say this: instead of getti ...
