Native Landscaping vs. Exotic Landscaping: What Should You Do?
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Looking around your neighborhood, you probably see front and backyards dominated by turfgrass and ornamental plants that are not native to the region. Native species are plants and animals present within a given area prior to European contact. Non-native (or exotic) plants or animals are defined as those species that were not present before European contact. The impact of urban landscaping on biodiversity may warrant altering conventional or "exotic" urban landscaping to emphasize native landscaping. Biodiversity refers to the variety of life and its processes. Biodiversity includes species diversity, habitat diversity, and genetic diversity. Heather Allen: 10 Wedding 'Rules' You Can Break
Huffington Post - over 3 years
According to Emily Post, there are cherished traditions and wedding etiquette, but she never said anything about "rules." And we agree. Just like there is no "crying in baseball," (according to Tom Hanks) there are no real "rules" that need to be followed when planning your fabulous fete. Other than, of course, making it legal. We have noticed that many couples are getting too caught up in the old-fashioned traditions of planning a wedding when they should be setting trends of their own, and truly personalizing the guests' experience to reflect the their own individual style and personalities. After all, weddings have certainly evolved from what you would have seen in the 1950s where the ultimate dream of an affluent middle class bride was a cookie cutter production complete with white dress, white flowers and a white wedding cake (and a few other essentials) all for the bargain price of $3,000. As we go through the planning process with our couples we try to offer them ...

Police: College Student Spied On Women In Bathroom
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Police say Villanova University student Tyler Jones has admitted to using his smart phone to secretly record a woman disrobing in a bathroom in order to upload the video to a porn website, NBC10 in Philadelphia reports. Radnor Patch reports that Jones faces several felony and misdemeanor charges for recording at least three women, including a child pornography charge because one of the victims was 17 years old at the time. Radnor Police Detective T.J. Schreiber told Patch that authorities got a tip from a woman who said a friend recognized her in a video on a porn website. She believed she was spied on in Jones' brother's bathroom during a trip to Switzerland in 2012. Schreiber told CBS Philadelphia that an investigation led to the discovery of two other videos of women whom Jones allegedly recorded. Jones confessed to police that the recordings happened in Switzerland, but were uploaded to the website X-Hamster from his dorm room at Villanova. WPVI reports Jones h ...

Breaking up is hard to do: Teens in Boston, other US cities get advice on ending relationships
Fox News - over 4 years
Andrew Curtin said it happened at least twice at his Boston-area high school in the last year. Angry about a breakup, a boy ended up at the school nurse's office with a broken hand after punching a locker or a wall. "You don't think about when you see two people walking down the hall, 'Are they in a bad relationship or is it good?'" the 17-year-old Waltham High School senior said Thursday. But he was among about 250 teenagers doing a lot of thinking about healthy relationships at a seminar at Simmons College on Thursday. And the dating advice was coming from an unlikely source: city government officials. Boston's Public Health Commission partnered with local social service agencies to put on its third annual "Break-Up Summit" for teens as part of a $1 million, four-year grant from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Nationwide, the $18 million program known as Start Strong is aimed at teaching teens in 11 cities to prevent dat ...
