New CBS Entertainment Chief Vows More Prime-Time Diversity
Huffington Post - about 1 year
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- CBS is committed to increasing the diversity of its prime-time series, the network's new programming chief said, offering himself as evidence. "I'm just a gay guy from Indiana who doesn't play basketball, but now I'm the entertainment president of CBS," said Glenn Geller, who was promoted to the job last fall. He contended that CBS offers diversity in front of and behind the camera and in its corporate offices. "And can we do better? I think we are," he told a TV critics' meeting Tuesday. "We're not casting color blind, we're casting color conscious." Two upcoming CBS series will offer "greatly diverse casts," he said of "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders," starting March 16, and "Rush Hour," debuting March 31. The newcomer to the "Criminal Minds" franchise, about FBI agents who aid Americans in trouble abroad, includes African-American actor Tyler James Williams and Daniel Henney, who is of Korean descent. Sundance Film Festival 2014 U.S. Competition Entries Feature Kristen Stewart, John Slattery, Lena Dunham
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Our first major glimpse of next year's indie darlings is here, thanks to the newly unveiled lineup for the Sundance Film Festival. Among the offerings for U.S. competition at next year's fest are the first feature film directed by "Mad Men" star John Slattery, a big-screen return from Lena Dunham and the reliable presence of festival-circuit favorites like John Hawkes and director Joe Swanberg ("Drinking Buddies," "LOL"). The competition is also lathered with genre flicks, from the horrific "Cold in July" and "Life After Beth" to the dramedy trappings of "The Skeleton Twins," which stars Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Luke Wilson and Ty Burrell. Still, A-listers like Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Aaron Paul are among the featured players, so we can count on the festival to maintain its usual confluence of obscure movies with ever-popular stars. Here are the 16 movies screening in the U.S. competition. All are receiving their world premieres at Sundance. "C ...

Atlanta revisit: Woodfire Grill restaurant review
ajc - over 3 years
Woodfire Grill's cage-roasted quail (credit: Becky Stein) In tomorrow’s AJC, I have a review of Woodfire Grill, now under the direction of chef Tyler Williams. I gave it four stars. Woodfire Grill, which opened in 2002, quickly became one of Atlanta’s foremost farm-to-table restaurants, known for use of locally harvested produce and humanely raised meats. It also was known for distinguished service and a value-friendly, approachable wine program. Overall, one of Atlanta’s premier fine-dining restaurants. Having a “Top Chef” finalist didn’t hurt. When Chef Kevin Gillespie took the helm, he raised the bar and elevated the cuisine at Woodfire. After he departed, chef Tyler Williams put his own stamp on the menu. “Playful” and “personality” are the two words Williams used to describe his cooking. I’d have to agree. I’d also add analytical and edgy as descriptors for his approach, a play in temperature, flavor and textural contrasts. Williams said he tries …
