'Dallas': Moving Tribute To J.R. Propels Season's Mystery
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
A moving tribute to Larry Hagman and his most iconic role, J.R. Ewing, on the latest episode of "Dallas." After he was shot and killed mysteriously last week, the Ewings came together to lay to rest one of the most notorious villains in the history of television. There were tributes to J.R. throughout the episode, as well as several cameos from the original run of "Dallas." Particularly moving were the tributes to J.R. from his brother Bobby and Sue Ellen. "You were the love of my life," she said. Bobby was angry and frustrated by the betrayal he felt at the hands of his wife, Ann, as well as the shocking death of J.R. His eulogy was kept brief and exemplified that frustration. "I don’t want it to be true, but it is. My brother is dead. And so now, I have to figure out just what I’m supposed to do," he said. The Hollywood Reporter called the episode a "heartfelt tribute." After his death, the family received a series of packages and letters from J.R. They learned that ...

Denette Wilford: How Watchable Is The New 'Dallas'?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Back in the '80s, TV was a trip. Once I finished my mandatory 30 minutes of piano-practicing, I was one of those kids who plopped herself down in front of the TV until dinner time (of course, this was the days of yore when children weren't laden with bulky knapsacks or dragging those little suitcases to and from school, burdened by hours of homework -- but I digress). So I've loved everything about TV for as long as I can remember. I learned to tell time with "Polka Dot Door," Balki Bartokomous was my favourite character, I had crushes on Face from "The A-Team" and Jeff Colby from "Dynasty" (side note: I wrote both actors, Dirk Benedict and John James, respectively, fan letters and only heard back from one of them -- complete with autographed picture. Squeee!), and my mother and I would catch up on the day's soaps ("Ryan's Hope," "Loving," "All My Children" and "One Life to Live," in case you're wondering) she recorded on our Betamax. Ahhh, the good old days. I was a di ...

NASA / SDO Sunspot region 1476 points toward Earth like a loaded gun in this picture from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Experts say the active region is capable of generating major X-class flares. By Alan Boyle Follow @b0yle We're not only closing out the week — we're closing out the first 10 years of Cosmic Log. It was on May 13, 2002, that I first began noting the follies and mysteries of science, space and society in this space. To mark the occasion, I'm presenting not just one, not just two, but three sets of brain-teasers. The first puzzle has already played out on the Cosmic Log Facebook page. I asked Facebook followers to figure out which four-digit number is best associated with the picture above, and it just took a couple of minutes for multiple commenters to come up with the answer: 1476, the designation for the active region that's currently front and center on the sun's disk and capable of throwing X-class flares in our direction. Aimee Teegarden Swims With Sea Lion Pups For Oceana PSA
Green Celebrity Network - almost 5 years
Oceana has released its latest public service announcement starring actress and ocean lover, Aimee Teegarden of Friday Night Lights. Oceana and Teegarden traveled up the coast of Southern California, from La Jolla to Santa Barbara Island, filming a PSA to raise awareness about the need to protect the oceans’ hidden treasures, its special habitats. Teegarden showed off her surfing abilities to share her love for the ocean, and she also free dove with sea lion pups in a hidden kelp forest, just 40 miles offshore of Los Angeles. This special place that Aimee visited acts as a sea lion rookery – a natural safe haven where sea lion pups can grow up. “It’s amazing that hidden treasures like this exist all over the ocean – you just have to look for them. It’s really upsetting to think about an awesome place like the sea lion rookery being destroyed by destructive fishing, pollution, or anything else harmful” said Teegarden. “This experience made it clear that we need to identify the ...
