10 Reasons Why We Keep Going Back To Outside Lands
Huffington Post - 7 months
Roughly 200,000 music fans flocked to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park last weekend for the 9th annual Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, headlined by LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead and Lionel Richie. Festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo may get more attention, but there’s a lot to love about Outside Lands: the diverse slate of musicians, the unbelievable food options, the magical forest-like setting. Here are some of the reasons why we keep going back year after year:  Incredible headliners like LCD Soundsystem and Radiohead Two of indie rock’s biggest icons headlined this year’s festival, both coming off multi-year hiatuses ― LCD Soundsystem split in 2011 before reuniting earlier this year, and Radiohead’s last live show before this tour was in 2012. Both bands made triumphant returns with their headlining sets. LCD’s Friday set was a nonstop dance party, kicking off with “Us v. Them” and winding through fan-favorites before closing out with the anthemic “All My Friends ...

Yahoo News - 10 months

Well, a new website lets users create similar videos on their own, albeit without the accompanying music. DON'T MISS:  The latest Super Mario Bros. world record run shouldn’t have been possible If you haven't yet heard of the website Talk Obama To Me , do yourself a favor and check it out immediately. The premise of the site is simple and the resulting fun is endless; simply type in a phrase of your choosing and the site will scour a vast database of Obama video footage whereupon it will splice together clips such that Obama will appear to utter your chosen phrase. You can definitely have a lot of fun with this, as evidenced by Engadget having Obama cite the Night's Watch pledge from Game of Thrones . While the site works for the most part, it can be a bit temperamental at ti ...

Tom Foley Remembered As A 'Titan Of Democracy'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
SPOKANE, Wash. -- SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Former U.S. House Speaker Tom Foley was remembered Friday as a statesman, a husband, and a friend to people great and small. About 800 people attended a memorial service for the Spokane native at St. Aloysius Church on the campus of his alma mater, Gonzaga University. The Democrat died Oct. 18 at his home in Washington, D.C., of complications from a stroke. He was 84. "He represented the best the state of Washington had to offer," said Gov. Jay Inslee. "It is a great honor to represent 6 1/2 million Washingtonians in honoring this titan of our democracy." U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., remembered many of the benefits Foley brought back to his Eastern Washington district while serving in Congress for 30 years. "He was a brilliant and courageous leader who belonged in the halls of power," Murray said. "But he also belonged here in Spokane." U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., remembered Foley as a great orator who also had a wry Irish wit ...

Bullet-Proof Your Portfolio The Warren Buffett Way
Business Insider - over 4 years
It's never a bad idea to bullet-proof your stock portfolio with companies that have a clear-cut competitive advantage. And now may be the right time to bolster your defenses with exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that buy stocks of companies with so-called "wide moats." Of course, famed investor Warren G. Buffett originally coined the term to describe companies with distinct competitive advantages over other firms in its industry.  The Oracle of Omaha says he is always looking for "economic castles protected by unbreachable moats."  Indeed, Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK.A, BRK.B) is chock full of wide-moat companies that consistently rake in high returns on invested capital, propelling their shares higher year after year.  The idea is to buy -- when they are cheap -- shares of companies that have dominant positions in their industries and are likely to maintain their superiority for decades, not months or years.  For example, Berkshire has held positions in The Coca Col ...

Revised Early College Basketball Top 25 For 2012-13
SB Nation - almost 5 years
The actual (not "official") deadline for underclassmen to declare themselves eligible for the NBA draft has come and gone, which means it's time to re-evaluate our still ridiculously early top 25 for 2012-13. 1. Indiana Who they're losing: G Verdell Jones Who they're bringing back: F Cody Zeller, F Christian Watford, G Jordan Hulls, G Victor Oladipo, G Maurice Creek, F Will Sheehey Who they're adding: G Yogi Ferrell, F Jeremy Hollowell, F Hanner Perea "Is Indiana back?" became one of the most prominent (and annoying) debates of the 2011-12 season, but it's one that shouldn't be an issue at all just a year later. The return of either Christian Watford or Cody Zeller -- the reigning Big Ten co-Freshman of the Year who looked sensational against Kentucky and Davis in the Sweet 16 -- guaranteed preseason top five status, but having both is enough to warrant handing the Hoosiers the top spot. Oh, and Tom Crean is bringing one of the nation's top recruiting classes, head ...
