Zheng He, formerly romanized as Cheng Ho, was an ethnic Hui court eunuch during the early Ming Dynasty. As a favorite of the Yongle Emperor, whose usurpation he assisted, he rose to the top of the imperial hierarchy and served as commander of the southern capital Nanjing. Today, he is most remembered as a mariner, explorer, and diplomat who led seven extraordinary voyages to the South Pacific and Indian Oceans between 1405 and 1433, reaching as far as the African coast.… Read More
