		<description>If someone followed you home from work, and then went through your garbage, and then sold pictures of the contents to a prospective employer, would you guys be cool with that?  What&#039;s the difference between that and Spokeo/HR?

You know, technically, when you put your trash on the sidewalk, it becomes &quot;public&quot; property, but there&#039;s something of a social contract that causes people to respect each other&#039;s personal life enough not to go snooping.  What kind of a world do you want to live in?  One where people are afraid to have any fun whatsoever because you never know who&#039;s going to judge a stray picture as if they themselves had never been in a similar situation.

Just because its technically possible for people with knowledge of APIs to go pulling things out of social networks, doesn&#039;t mean it&#039;s a good idea.

When I hire, I assume that we&#039;ve all done things we&#039;d rather keep amongst our friends.  Instead, I&#039;d rather focus on whether the candidate was able to balance a productive professional life w/o letting their personal life get in the way.  Glass houses, boys.
