MVD Warns Against Potential Scam That Claims to Reduce Auto Insurance Rates for New Mexicans
SANTA FE
–
The State Motor Vehicle Division is warning New Mexicans against a potential insurance scam
that claims to reduce auto insurance rates by requesting to disclose personal information on phone.
Telemarketers for “The Auto Insurance Center” are calling New Mexicans on their cell and home phones with the following message, “"The New Mexico Motor Vehicles Department is concerned because you may be paying too much for auto insurance.”
The message also requests residents to call back 505-204-7865
.
The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division is not connected with this operation and has not issued any reports
about insurance rates in New Mexico. Callers to “The Auto Insurance Center” are being asked to provide
personal information such as name, address and dates of birth.
MVD is advising against providing any personal information to anyone on the phone. If you receive a call
from this outfit, you can ignore it or report it to your local law enforcement agencies or the New Mexico Attorney General’s Office.
