The evolution of people search (4/4)

September 22nd, 2008 by raphael

Spokeo realized that names are not unique, but email addresses are.  If we can identify a MySpace profile or Friendster profile by email address, then we have a unique, guaranteed search result!  With this realization, Spokeo tried to transform the people search industry once again to make it easier than ever before to find people.

Spokeo first allowed people to search email addresses one by one.  While very fast and accurate, someone even better lay ahead.  It soon developed the technology to search an entire address book at a time.  With this technology, it could perform hundreds of people search queries simultaneously and return results from anyone you have ever emailed.  Finally, we have arrived at a people search engine that can search hundreds of people simultaneously, return only unique results, and find highly engaging multimedia information.  Try Spokeo today!

The evolution of people search (3/4)

In 2006, riding on the surge of social networks, people search once again returned to its interactive, social roots.  Eyeing the wealth of information generated by social networks, a new wave of people search companies started aggregating and searching information across all social media, including social networks, bookmarking sites, photo storage sites, blogs, and even online encyclopedias!

This new paradigm of people search greatly transformed this industry.  When you search for someone online, what would you rather see, an old address and phone number, or up-to-date tweets from Twitter?

Only one major problem remained with this new wave of Web 2.0 people search companies.  Searching for ‘John Irving’ produced 100 matches.  How can you find someone without looking through each result?

The evolution of people search (2/4)

The Net then started to mimic the traditional people search industry.  Background checks companies began putting their massive criminal, marriage, driving, and educational records online.  People search was no longer about finding someone to converse with, as was the case with email directories.  People search turned into sleuthing.  It became a way to verify background information and procure background information.

It was no longer a way to find people to connect with, but to find information about people you already knew.  Compared to Spokeo today, people search was tailored for business transactions as opposed to social interaction.

The evolution of people search (1/4)

When the Internet first started, there really wasn’t much information out there.  Search engines weren’t around yet.  All that existed were a few primitive Web directories such as Yahoo and email directories.  And email directories were exactly where today’s massive people search industry first started.  Today, even Spokeo People Search can trace its roots back to these original email directories.

Email directories may seem strange to us these days because we all have our contact lists in Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL mail, however in those days finding someone to email was not easy!  These directories were essentially free people search for social purposes.

Compared to today’s search technologies, email directories didn’t offer very much information.  All it could tell you was whether a person used email, and if so, what the contact address was.  At that time,  multimedia people search that turned up MySpace photos or YouTube videos was still far off in the future.

People search is “the new black”

Remember when you first googled yourself? You didn’t know want to expect. And you’ll have to admit that it was pretty darn cool to see yourself as a result; someone who Google felt important enough to index and share to the world. But after you googled yourself (and others of course…don’t lie) you pretty much realized that there wasn’t much to it. Googling yourself and others became, well, boring. There was no excitement in finding out what you likely already knew about yourself and others: college attended, photo here or there, company employment roster, former authored school report, etc.

Where was the good stuff… you know, the “good stuff”?

The “good stuff” was being mined by people search companies like Spokeo People Search. Today, companies like this allow users to simply import their email contacts into an easy-to-use system and find information on themself and colleagues one only dreamed of in years past. From photos, videos, blogs, and shopping lists; Spokeo people search makes it possible to see what’s really out there for public viewing; and should you see something upsetting, give advice on how to privatize that information. It’s all on Spokeo.com.

In essence, search has changed. Googling yourself and others has evolved into people search.

Benjamin Disraeli said it best, ” Change is inevitable. Change is constant.”

Searching yourself and others will never be the same.

All this talk about free people search…but where’s the beef?

If the old adage is true that “there’s no such thing as a free lunch, ” then it most certainly applies in the case of ” free people search “. Now of course, you could argue the point of the existence of free lunches (and they most certainly do exist) however, more important, is the question of quality. And that’s just my point. A free lunch is “free” because it lacks in substance; much in the same way free people search lacks in substance. It leaves you hungry for more! It appears appetizing, but is nothing more than filler (MSG).

If free means that it comes at the expensive of substance, than forget it! I’m like most people search users out there that want the goods…and I’m talking piled high! Thank God for Spokeo people search. I get real results that I wouldn’t otherwise find on other people search engines out there. Just ask the the Wall Street Journal who covered an awesome story some months back.

So, if you want something juicy and care to be served the best people search results, prepare to be full!

Yahoo People Search should search deeper within oneself for answers

August 4th, 2008 by raphael

Ok, so it sounds a little like something out of a fortune cookie. But on a more serious note, it’s absolutely true.

Just yesterday, for the hell of it, I decided to search myself on Yahoo! People Search. I figured I’d have no problem calling up all the social networks I belong to or even the countless comments I’ve made over the years on forums (after all this is the second largest search engine in the world). Much to my surprise, I found nothing more than useless information that could have been retrieved on any search engine; big or small.

Now compare that with what I managed to find on myself with one of the web’s hottest people search tools to date. Spokeo People Search, a comprehensive people search tool , discovered that I belonged to five social networks, found my personal photos, and to my own embarrassment found my old troubleshooting questions on forums from years back. Wow…talk about all-in-my-business!

Despite the initial shock, it worked like a true people search platform should. At the end of the day all I wanted was: The Goods! And that’s what I got.

So if you want to to search on the surface, use Yahoo! People Search, however, if you want to dig deeper go with Spokeo People Search. I consider it better than Yahoo People Search.

The best people search engine hands down…

August 1st, 2008 by raphael

There are dozens of people search sites out there that will give you the basics on any person you’re looking for. However, here’s a question to ponder: How many people search engines have the capability to search a person and share their inner most personal thoughts or photos; even if they go by an alias?

Not very many I’d imagine. In fact, not one.

This is why Spokeo people search is the leading people search engine, hands down! Never before could anything like this be done. Spokeo leverages your existing social network and email relationships to quickly and easily grab content across the web. Our simple email and social network import features allow you to start browsing immediately - no tedious setup required.

The average Spokeo user finds 87 profiles across 40 different social networks. Chances are you will find plenty of profiles scattered across the web. Spokeo people search helps you connect with your friends and colleagues by keeping you up to date with their latest activities.

Spokeo People Search is David to Golith

July 31st, 2008 by raphael

As the need to find people becomes more common, people are associating the name Spokeo with People Search. A great example of this can be seen in a recent article published by the Wall Street Journal back in May of this year.

Proudly and simply stated by its writer:

Spokeo.com is a search site operated by Spokeo Inc., a startup that lets users see what their friends are doing on other Web sites.

Although the article went on to mention other companies in the people search market, Spokeo people search received an overwhelming amount of coverage. That says alot coming from America’s best-selling financial newspaper. The article later continues by highlighting the accounts of a recent user:

Ruth Funabiki, a 57-year-old law librarian in Moscow, Idaho, recently discovered through Spokeo that a friend added something unusual to her wish list on Amazon.com: one of those disposable pads that protects mattresses from bedwetters. “There’s a voyeuristic aspect to it,” she says. “I’m embarrassed. I shouldn’t be looking.”

If you think about it, what other people search engine would reveal that degree of detail. You better believe there’s a new sheriff in town. We’re picking up stream and if you don’t want to miss this train you better jump on.

Search people on Craigslist before you meet

July 30th, 2008 by raphael

Who hasn’t heard of Craigslist…it’s like, the place to go to find any bargain imaginable. If fact, to be quite honest, I purchased my current vehicle on the site some years back ( Boy, did I get a sweet deal). But whatever your reason for being on Craigslist, be it deals or dating, one thing is certain: you’ll have to meet the person face-to-face as a means to an end.

Well, if you’re like me, you’ll want to know a bit more about a person before meeting up at 9:45pm in a Safeway Parking lot to buy a 32GB Ipod Touch. So rather than going off a person’s word, why not know something more through people search? Why not see what they look like for the sake of curiosity? Or see if the person you’re about to go on that date with has some sort of fetish Myspace page they created with some discrete username.

Well, with Spokeo people search it’s a done deal. It’s easy to do! To get started, the only qualification is that you know how to enter an email address. Easy, huh?!

Remember, life is to valuable to meet up with strangers! So search people and be safe!
