CommentI received a call yesterday that claimed I was "randomly selected in a raffle" & won 6.5 million dollars & a 2013 Mercedes from the Publishers Clearing House. This dude had terrible english & I could hear roosters crowing in the background as he read his script repeatedly to me. I told him I didn't believe him & it sounds like a shady scam to me & I needed documentation to even understand what he was talking about (I admit I decided to partake in this conversation & pick his brain a bit for kicks & get as much ridiculous info as I could from his attempt) I asked how did I win something that I didn't even apply for & he asked if I shopped at Walgreens, CVS, or Walmart & if I pay my bills on time? Supposedly that is how I got selected & he kept insisting how I won all this cash & there was a certified letter from UPS that needed to be delivered to me & an attorney at my doorstep. I asked to speak to his manager & he put me on hold for a few seconds, then said he was busy at the moment & would call me back in 10 minutes. Never got a call back. I did some digging online & found out this is a Jamaican number & this area code is known for scammers. Publishers Clearing House will never notify somebody through phone, email, or letter of winning ahead of drawing date ESPECIALLY if you never entered the contest to begin with. I've read up on several scams like this & the scammers claim to need money up front for you to receive your winnings but this particular phone conversation didn't get that far. I'm sure I'll be getting another phone call insisting on this info for me to collect my winnings from his "manager" & I look forward to hearing the roosters crowing in the background again...NOT.
