Kelly Thomas memorial events scheduled in Fullerton

Artists and musicians in Fullerton are preparing for a weekend of events commemorating the one-year anniversary of the death of Kelly Thomas. The events will raise money and donations for the homeless in memory of Thomas, a homeless, mentally ill man whose death at the hands of Fullerton police officers threw the town into turmoil and led to criminal charges against two of the officers and a recall of three City Council members. On Friday night from 6 to 11 p.m., the PAS Gallery at 223 W. Santa Fe Ave. will host an opening reception for an art show in which more than 40 artists contributed pieces inspired by Thomas. The show includes works by Susan Olsen, who played Cindy on "The Brady Bunch," and Cherie Currie, former singer of the Runaways. Proceeds of the art sales will go to the Kelly Thomas Memorial Foundation, set up by the Thomas family to raise money for the homeless in Orange County.
