Debra Messing Just Went On Her First Date Since 19, And It Was 'Traumatizing'
Huffington Post - almost 3 years
From 1998 to 2006, we saw Debra Messing on "Will & Grace" court countless suitors, played by the likes of Woody Harrelson, Ed Burns and Harry Connick Jr. But the actress, who divorced in 2012, has far less dating experience offscreen, and she only recently went on her first date in more than two decades, she revealed in a conversation with HuffPost Live on Thursday. "I've begun to mingle, and I am ready to mingle," she told host Nancy Redd. "But it's a very odd thing because I really haven't dated since I was like 19 years old." The "Mysteries of Laura" star met her former husband Daniel Zelman while attending graduate school at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where class served as a substitute for proper dates. "We were just classmates and then we became friends, so we never said, 'Hi, nice to meet you, want to go out on a date?' 'Sure, let's get to know each other over dinner.' That never happened," the 46-year-old explained. While she's still getting ...

Kyle Chandler Coming To Netflix In Drama From 'Damages' Creators
Huffington Post - about 4 years
When talking about brilliant television from the past decade, both "Damages" and "Friday Night Lights" are often part of the conversation. As high school football coach Eric Taylor, Kyle Chandler was a huge part of what made "FNL" such a raw experience for viewers, so it's great to see that he's making his way back to the small screen via Netflix. Even better, Deadline reports that he'll be working with "Damages" creators Glenn Kessler, Todd Kessler and Daniel Zelman. Chandler will star in the 13-episode psychological thriller -- which doesn't have a name yet -- about a family of adult siblings who find their world turned upside down when the eldest brother returns to the fold. Chandler is reportedly on board as the married middle brother, who takes care of the family. The actor, who won an Emmy for his performance in "Friday Night Lights," has been doing film work lately. Fans can find many of those films, along with the entire five-season run of "Friday Night Lights," currentl...

Damages Creators Set Up New Series On Netflix
Boom Tron - over 4 years
The Damages team is getting back together and for their second outing they are heading out to pastures that are just a tad more open to creative flexibility to craft a new series that is surely meant to turn the mirror on many average American families. Creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman, and Glenn Kessler have struck a deal with Netflix that will see their new project, an untitled psychological thriller drama, air on the subscription streaming service some time in the future. While the exact details of the series are a little on the shy side, we have enough here to tell us this will be something to make you cringe and wonder about your family. The series, which Deadline reported to be getting a 13-episode order, centers on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when the black sheep brother returns home. “We’ve always wanted to put our spin on a family saga and examine universal themes of family in a way that has never been seen before on television,”...

Glenn Close: Auctioning Off Patty Hewes
Huffington Post - over 4 years
It's been a strange week for me. Close to four hundred pieces from Patty Hewes' wardrobe are being auctioned off on eBay. There are three days to go! For those of you who might not be familiar with Ms. Hewes, she is the mighty litigation lawyer that I had great fun playing over five seasons of Damages. This week, as well, SONY is releasing the DVD of the fifth and final season. So I have been filled with nostalgia as I think back on the amazing journey Damages was for me and our cast and crew. Patty Hewes was a first for television -- or any media. She is an extremely smart, extremely powerful, extremely ballsy older woman, at the top of her game, in control of her destiny. In a world that, in the past, was totally ruled over and controlled by men, Patty makes no apologies for the tactics she uses to win her cases. She picks the bad guys -- the bullies -- and brings them down. She exists in the gray areas of life, not totally good, for sure, but also, not totally bad. In othe...

Chris Harnick: A Final Salute To 'Damages' & Patty Hewes
Huffington Post - over 5 years
As "Damages" signs off for good -- yes, it's still on, it moved to DirecTV after Season 3 on FX -- I find myself thinking about what the show has done for the television landscape. And I come back to one central figure: Patty Hewes. TV will never see another character like Patty Hewes, who has been played expertly by Glenn Close for five seasons. Why? Because Glenn Close will likely never do a regular TV series again, as she told me in an interview. Patty Hewes, a mix of evil, misunderstanding and conflict, has terrorized Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) and viewers for years, yet you can't help but feel sympathy for the character. And when the series ends, you won't be able to shake that feeling. This character is so bad, she's pure entertainment. And that's why Patty Hewes is so special. She won't be topped. However, the legacy of Patty will live on in the shows that came after "Damages" featuring flawed, powerful female leads. Without "Damages," do you think we...

Damages' Final Season: It's Patty vs. Ellen - Who Will Win?

Damages' Final Season: It's Patty vs. Ellen - Who Will Win? Seattle Post-Intelligencer Copyright 2012 Seattle Post-Intelligencer. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. Published 09:28 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2012 In Wednesday's premiere (9/8c, DirecTV's Audience Channel), Patty refuses to take on the case of Channing McClaren (Ryan Phillippe), an Internet mogul whose Wikileaks-like operation comes under fire when the identity of one of his whistle-blowing Wall Street sources, Naomi Walling (Jenna Elfman), is (accidentally?) made public. For us, one of the really exciting challenges was to not have a clear-cut sense of right and wrong. The case and the clients that Patty and Ellen are both representing really provide a great backdrop for keeping the audience guessing who is in the right. Damages taps Ryan Phillippe for Season 5 But why would Ellen seemingly play right into Patty...

Debra Messing Opens Up About Divorce
The Inquisitor - almost 6 years
Debra Messing has had a few interesting months of art imitating life, and in this month’s issue of Ladies’ Home Journal magazine she opens up about the much criticized relationship between her and her Smash co-star Will Chase. In December Debra Messing, 47, broke the news to the public that after 10 years of marriage she was ending her marriage with Daniel Zelman. Immediately following that news reports started to come out about Messing dating her Smash co-star Will Chase, who at the time was also going through his own divorce. On the show the two participate in an extramarital affair, cheating on their spouses with each other. The fact that art was imitating life wasn’t lost on Messing in the least. “I’m trying to keep things as simple as possible – embracing saying ‘no’ and being okay with people being unhappy with me,” said Messing. Debra went on to say that she feels at peace with the length of her marriage, admitting to the magazine that, “I am at peace with the journey w...
