Mike Pucillo Comes Out: College Wrestling Champion Opens Up About His Sexuality In New Interview
Huffington Post Sports - almost 3 years
Former Ohio State NCAA champion wrestler Mike Pucillo opened up about his sexuality in a new interview with Open Mat's Jason Bryant. Pucillo, who was a three-time All-American and 2008 NCAA Division I Champion at Ohio State, recalled coming out as gay to his best friend and college teammate, Reece Humphrey, in the interview. According to the magazine, he is now the first openly gay Division I national champion wrestler. “I’ve always known, I guess,” Pucillo, who came out to his parents and friends just over a year ago, said. He hesitated coming out as an Ohio State competitor: “I wish I was able to be myself seven years ago while still competing in college, but it isn’t until now that I am comfortable with myself to tell my story. I want people to know that you aren’t alone. If I can just help one person get through, then I will be happy.” The 28-year-old Pucillo, who spent a year as an assistant coach at Ohio State in 2011, added: “I didn’t need to make anyone feel uncomfort...

Those Who Changed History but Won't Be in the History Books
Huffington Post - over 4 years
As a history teacher, I have read and taught about every figure in our textbooks and curriculum. Some are more than deserving of their recognition and immortalization in school texts nationwide, while others just happen to be very lucky that they were chosen for one reason or another. Now, as a historian, I have found that, sadly, there are far more figures throughout history whose acts, though not mentioned in books, have changed the world and lives for the better. There are so many who, though they will not be featured in history textbooks or have monuments built in their names, are as deserving as those who do. Of course, it is impossible to give credit to all those who have contributed to the betterment of mankind, but it is our job as historians and educators to ensure that these individuals and their contributions are not forgotten or lost among those we choose to make sure are remembered. Now, I am not going to be able to mention every single figure whose acts of courage and ...

Martel Okonji: Raven Wrestling Wolverine? Coming-Out Consequences
Huffington Post - over 4 years
The coming-out revolution continues. Just in the last few weeks, former Cosby kid Raven-Symoné, WWE wrestler Darren Young and X-Men Origins: Wolverine teen star Troye Sivan each proclaimed his or her sexual identity to the world. What's becoming more interesting is how nonchalant and casual most of these celebrity coming-out announcements have become. Raven-Symoné just happened to mention it on Twitter in reference to the Supreme Court rulings, while Darren Young made it seem like no big deal while talking to a TMZ reporter at the airport. And the young Wolverine seemed to be the most thoughtful about how and when he would announce it to the world on YouTube. Coming out is a very personal decision, and it's not an easy decision to make. Ask any of the homeless LGBT youth who are out on the streets. Most did not have a positive experience after telling their families that they are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. As a youth advocate at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian...

WWE SmackDown spoilers for Nov. 23: The Survivor Series fallout show
Cageside Seats - over 5 years
WWE SmackDown returns to SyFy this coming Friday night (Nov. 23, 2012) from Grand Rapids but the show was taped, as usual, on Tuesday night. That means full spoilers are readily available if you're the impatient type who doesn't want to wait a couple days for the payoff. Unwrap that present early (via Wrestling Observer): -- Remember when I said John Cena would be working a dark match, as WWE has so often used him for when they advertise him for SmackDown tapings due to sagging ticket sales? Well, whoever suggested actually using him straight up for the show was right, because that's exactly what they did. -- The show kicked off with MizTV, which is starting to become the norm. Guess who his guest was? That's right, none other than Cena himself. You know where this one goes. AJ Lee ended up out there, Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero both showed up, and it was more of the same from Raw with less spit swapping. -- Prime Time Players backstage segment being aw...

Bogus PC preys on elderly in Leeds
Yorkshire Evening Post - almost 6 years
DETECTIVES hunting a bogus police officer who targeted elderly women to steal have today released an e-fit picture of the wanted man. Officers issued a warning to householders in Leeds to call the police 101 number if in doubt about anyone visiting their homes particularly claiming to be police. In one distraction burglary the phoney officer got into a woman’s house and stole a large quantity of cash before escaping in a van. Officers revealed that on both occasions the man claimed to be a police officer checking on residents’ security after burglaries in the area. He produced a fake identity card and was wore uniform-style clothing, a fluorescent jacket and carried a clipboard. In the first incident at 5.15pm on April 27 the suspect called at an 83-year-old woman’s home on Allenby Drive, Beeston, Leeds. She refused to allow the trickster in. A few miles away and 40 minutes later the same man is believed to have visited the home of a 73-year-old woman on The Crescent, Tingley. ...

WWE SmackDown Results (4/27)
Wrestling News Source - almost 6 years
Report by Richard Trionfo & PWinsider.com Michael reminds us that Josh Mathews is not with them tonight because of the injuries he suffered at the hands of Brock Lesnar on Monday night during Raw. Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring and YES, he has something to say this week. Daniel has a smile on his face from ear to ear and he says that he did it. He cut the umbilical cord and finally got rid of AJ. He says that this feels so good. There is still something bothering him and he wants to set the record straight. That loss at Wrestlemania. That eighteen second loss to Sheamus at Wrestlemania . . . that does not count. If anything, that loss should go on AJ’s record, not his. That is because AJ lost that match, not him. Yet, Sheamus runs around with Daniel’s championship as if he won something. It is unbelievable but he plans to rectify that situation this Sunday at Extreme Rules. Sheamus cannot legitimately defeat him once, let alone in two out of three falls. Despite his persona...
