The Powerful Reason Alan Cumming Painted His Fingernail Purple
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Broadway and television actor Alan Cumming is lending his voice to a new campaign created by the nation’s leading victim assistance organization that aims to ignite discussion around domestic violence.  The 51-year-old “Good Wife” and “Cabaret” star joins Dave Navarro, Kyra Sedgwick and a bevy of other celebrities in the above video for Safe Horizon’s #PutTheNailInIt campaign. In the video, which was released to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, “Today Show” co-host Tamron Hall asks supporters to apply purple nail polish to their left ring fingernail in solidarity with victims of domestic violence. Brian Pacheco, who is the director of public relations at Safe Horizon, told The Huffington Post that he was particularly proud of Cumming’s participation in the campaign because domestic violence remains a somewhat taboo topic in the LGBT community. Rock Stars Unite for L.A. Cancer Benefit
Huffington Post - over 2 years
"Nice boys don't play rock 'n' roll," that's what W. Axl Rose sang back when Guns N' Roses covered Rose Tattoo's infectious tune years ago. There isn't much truth to that adage as musicians often band together for a good cause. Most recently, veteran player Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver) put together The Hellcat Saints who will debut at the El Rey Theatre on Tuesday, November 3 to benefit Rhonda's Kiss, a charity that raises money to help those who receive a diagnosis of any type of cancer but are unable to make ends meet for treatment and support. Joining Kushner will be fellow Saints Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver) on bass; guitarists Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses); and drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle). Featuring a rotating lineup of singers, guests vocalists will include Billy Idol, Juliette Lewis, Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray), and Ke$ha, among others. Comedian Bill Burr will kick start the night with a brash ...

Getting That First Tattoo: Next Day Reactions After Getting Ink From a Master
Huffington Post - over 2 years
On Tuesday night, celebrity tattoo artist Oliver Peck was going live for the Season 6 finale of Ink Master, the Spike TV competition series he stars in, along with Dave Navarro and Chris Núñez. And on Wednesday night, this world-renowned creator and Guinness Book of World Records holder had me in the chair in the back of a New York City leather goods store getting a Sailor Jerry design tattooed on my chest. And I should mention it is my first tattoo ever. The scenario is one of many surreal experiences that plays out in my life. One moment I'm heading to Schott NYC, in the NoLiTa neighborhood to check out the unveiling of a new peacoat from the Sailor Jerry clothing line. The next, I'm getting an old-school SJ shark inked on my pec. According to a May 2014 NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, 40 percent of Americans have someone in their household with a tattoo (up from 21 percent in 1999). Now I'm one of them, and wanted to share my thoughts. I don't know how high up t...
