Five American History Series HBO Should Produce Before 'Confederate'
The Huffington Post - 7 months
I sympathize and largely agree with the #NoConfederate movement originated by April Reign and supported by many activists and commentators. We desperately need more American history on television and in our popular culture, and I’m hesitant to oppose any effort ― even a counter-factual and controversial one ― to bring those themes to life. But there are so many better stories to tell first. In general, I’m all in favor of TV shows that focus on American historical themes and issues, even if in counterfactual ways. The more such shows produced, the more genuinely and deeply we can begin to have collective conversations about our shared and complex histories. And it’s fair to say that the era after the Civil War, the sesquicentennial of which we’re in the midst of, is one of our most consistently forgotten histories. So I’d be willing to see what kinds of conversations the proposed HBO series, which would be created and executive produced by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff ...

That’s been tough enough. Now it turns out the wait for the final season may be even longer. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO programming president Casey Bloys conceded that Season 8, which is only six episodes long, may not air until 2019 if showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss need that amoun...

The Final 'Game Of Thrones' Season Will Only Have Six Episodes
Huffington Post - 12 months
Bidding Westeros adieu might not be painless, but it will be quick. During a South by Southwest panel on Sunday, “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed that the eighth and final season, airing next year, will have only six episodes.  Season 7, which premieres July 16, will feature seven episodes. Each prior season spans 10. Having wrapped Season 7, Benioff and Weiss are beginning the writing process for next year’s denouement. No ice-melting premiere date has been announced.  In other “Game of Thrones” news out of SXSW, Ed Sheeran will have a cameo in the upcoming season. Benioff and Weiss didn’t divulge the singer’s role, but it looks like the HBO smash could be Sheeran’s Castle Black on the Hill.  function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){'undefined'!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if('object'==typeof commercial_video){var a='',o='m.fwsitesection='+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(...

‘Game of Thrones’ might have more episodes left than we thought
Yahoo News - about 1 year
HBO hasn't yet formally renew Game of Thrones for an eighth season, and there’s an exciting — or annoying — reason for that. It all depends on your personal take on the hit TV series. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss surprised fans last year when they said that they have some 13 hours left in the Game of Thrones saga. That implied that HBO would only air 13 more episodes over the course of the next two seasons. We already know that season 7 will hit HBO later than initially expected, and it will consist of just 7 episodes. So we thought HBO had settled on a six-episode eight and final season. However, TVLine found out that HBO is still waiting for Benioff and Weiss to decide how many episodes they want in season 8. That’s why the last Game of Thrones season has not been formally confirmed. “The only thing we’re working out is how many episodes they want to do,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys told the site. Bloys “hopes” there will be more than six episode...
