The Miss Sofia Coppola Seminary For Eternal Admirers
Huffington Post - 8 months
THE AIR THAT I BREATHE “I didn’t know what I wanted to do next, but I knew I wanted to do something that was really beautiful.” Sofia Coppola’s movies reveal her contradictions. She is a director whose Hollywood inauguration was a birthright, thanks to an illustrious family tree and a luckless child-acting stint she never wanted. Fleeting youthfulness lies at the center of her stories: the troubled teens in “The Virgin Suicides” and “The Bling Ring,” the aging actors adrift in “Lost in Translation” and “Somewhere,” the callow duchess thrust into notoriety in “Marie Antoinette,” and now the repressed boarding-school denizens in “The Beguiled.” Her characters seek better horizons, but Coppola is nothing if not resolute, sophisticated, singular. In the words of “Bling Ring” star Israel Broussard, Coppola has a “motherly essence and gracefulness.” According to “Virgin Suicides” matriarch Kathleen Turner, who also co-starred with Coppola in the 1986 comedy “Peggy Sue Got Marrie...

Behold, Nicole Kidman Transfixed By A Pie
Huffington Post - 8 months
Celebrity photographs are a key component of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, so here is one of Nicole Kidman hypnotized by the luckiest pie in the world. Kidman’s finger hovered over that dessert at the after-party for Monday’s Los Angeles premiere of “The Beguiled,” where she is seen surrounded by co-star Elle Fanning, chef Casey Thompson, director Sofia Coppola and co-star Kirsten Dunst. The women in Coppola’s new movie do serve pie to the wounded Civil War soldier (Colin Farrell) they take in at their isolated Louisiana boarding school. Oscar winners, they’re just like us. The actress touched this fresh confection with abandon, and for that we salute her. It is, after all, the Year of Kidman. You might say the “Beguiled” premiere was to pie for. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. The Go-To Looks At Cannes Are Thigh-High Slits And Lots Of Cleavage
Huffington Post - 9 months
The Cannes Film Festival is the perfect intersection of art, celebrity, glamour and, well, money. It’s basically the best black-tie affair of the year. Those who walk the red carpet go all out ― and then some ― with their outfits. The men gravitate toward tuxes while women wear incredible bespoke gowns paired with shimmering jewels. Bella Hadid kicked off the night in a daring dress with a thigh-high slit and a necklace that would rival Rose’s in “Titanic.” Emily Ratajkowski basically copied Bella’s iconic Cannes look from last year (slit and all), while Susan Sarandon gave us everything in a green velvet dress with ― you guessed it ― a thigh high slit. Take a look at the most interesting looks from Cannes so far: Bella Hadid Emily Ratajkowski Susan Sarandon Eva Herzigová Julianne Moore Jessica Chastain Coco Konig Naomie Harris Robin Wright Petra Nemcova Lily-Rose Depp Elle Fanning Stay tuned for more Cannes bea...

The Trailer For Sofia Coppola's 'The Beguiled' Previews A Southern Gothic Horror
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Here’s a rare remake worth your excitement: The first trailer for Sofia Coppola’s “The Beguiled” has arrived. Coppola gives her own spin on the 1971 drama starring Clint Eastwood, itself an adaptation of Thomas P. Cullinan’s 1966 Southern Gothic novel. Colin Farrell plays a Confederate soldier riding out an injury at an all-girls boarding school in rural Virginia. As he bonds with the sheltered women on the property ― played by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, “Pete’s Dragon” star Oona Laurence and “The Nice Guys” breakout Angourie Rice ― things get a little twisted. “The Beguiled” marks Coppola’s first theatrical release since 2013’s “The Bling Ring.” It opens June 23. -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. Natalie Portman Channels Demi Moore's Famous Pregnancy Photo For The New Vanity Fair
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Vanity Fair released the cover of its Hollywood Issue on Thursday, and at least one of the images inside the mag will look pretty familiar. Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Ruth Negga, Dakota Fanning, Elle Fanning, Aja Naomi King, Janelle Monae, Greta Gerwig and Dakota Johnson star on the cover shot by ― who else? ― Annie Leibovitz. The group of “wonder women” is pictured in a bevy of red carpet-worthy gowns in metallic and pink hues. Inside the magazine, a pregnant Natalie Portman posed for a truly breathtaking image in little more than a sheet. It’s a clear nod to the iconic 1991 photograph of naked and pregnant Demi Moore, famously shot by Leibovitz for that year’s August issue of Vanity Fair. As noted by Vanity Fair itself, while “the reference is clear, the moment is Portman’s alone.” Indeed. Head to Vanity Fair to see more gorgeous images from the shoot and be sure to pick up your own copy when it hits newsstands Feb. 7. -- This feed a...

Zaki's Review: Live by Night
Huffington Post - about 1 year
One of the great Hollywood turnarounds of the last decade-and-change has been Ben Affleck's transformation from frequent punchline in the wake of such seismic duds as Gigli and Jersey Girl into one of the most gifted triple-threats the industry has to offer, with his considerable skills as writer/director/star readily visible in films such as The Town and 2012 Best Picture winner Argo. As such, it was with a certain amount of anticipation that I greeted Affleck's latest, the period crime drama Live by Night, and while it's his least satisfying directorial effort to date, it still bears enough hallmarks of a talented filmmaker not to be dismissed entirely. Based on the 2012 Dennis Lehane crime novel of the same name, Live by Night is definitely Affleck's most ambitious turn behind the camera in terms of the sheer scope it attempts to encompass, weaving an epic, decade-spanning crime tale in the Godfather mould. But though its ambitions are clear, it feels less like a fully-realized s...

The Best Advice Elle Fanning Ever Got Was From Nicole Kidman
Huffington Post - about 1 year
The cover star of Elle UK’s February issue is none other than actress Elle Fanning, the star of movies like “Maleficent,” “Trumbo,” and the upcoming film “20th Century Women,” which will premiere Feb. 10. As part of the magazine’s theme on finding happiness, the publication asked readers to send in their personal dilemmas and questions for Fanning to address, and the 18-year-old actress proved wise beyond her years. When asked about the best advice she’s ever received, Fanning said: Nicole Kidman told me, “Find your tribe and they’ll always be behind you.” I like that. Deep stuff, right? Fanning also provided advice on how to move on from an ex when living in an age dominated by social media, cautioning, “ ... between Snapchat and Instagram, you can see everything — especially them with a new partner. But it’s damaging so you have to stop.” You can check out more of the interview here. type=type=RelatedArticlesblockTitle=Related... + ar...
