Michel’le Opens Up About Her Abusive Relationship With Dr. Dre
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Michel’le wants to clear up any misconceptions or rumors about her past relationships with the network debut of her biopic “Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel’le.” The Lifetime original film ― starring Rhyon Nicole Brown (Michel’le), Curtis Hamilton (Dr. Dre), Jamie Kennedy (music manager Jerry Heller) and R. Marcos Taylor reprising his “Straight Outta Compton” role as Suge Knight ― will chronicle the R&B singer’s humble beginnings during N.W.A.’s meteoric rise in the music industry to her past abusive romance with Dr. Dre. The relationship prompted a downward spiral into substance abuse for the chart-topping singer ― known for her late ‘80s hits “No More Lies” and “Something In My Heart” ― before her later turbulent relationship with Dre’s then business partner and Death Row Records co-founder, Marion “Suge” Knight. The singer-songwriter, later, had a son with Dre and a daughter with Knight. She told The Huffington Post that the omission of her involvement in...

First Look: NBC Orders New Shows “Chicago Med,” “Heartbreaker,” “Blindspot”
Headline Planet - almost 3 years
News came Friday that NBC has officially ordered three pilots for the 2015-16 season. Garnering the most media attention thus far is the latest “Chicago Fire” spin-off “Chicago Med.” Introduced via the April 7 “I Am the Apocalypse” edition of “Chicago Fire,” which served as a backdoor pilot, “Chicago Med” stars Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Laurie Holden, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya Dacosta. Also added to NBC’s 2015-16 roster are dramas “Heartbreaker” and “Blindspot.” The former is a medical drama based on the life and achievements of Dr. Kathy Magliato. The latter is a high-concept drama thrust into motion when a mysterious woman emerges in Times Square with no knowledge of who she is or how she got there. Photos and synopses follow: “CHICAGO MED” Executive producer Dick Wolf delivers the newest installment of the compelling “Chicago” franchise, an emotional thrill ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital and the courageous team of docto...

Which New Amazon Original Pilots Should You Stream This Weekend?
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Amazon's pilot season has begun and, just like last year, the future of the next Amazon Original series is in your hands. Ten new original pilots are now available to stream for free on Amazon and you get to vote on which ones will get picked up for series. While five of the pilots are for kids, the other five are comedies and dramas starring and written by some pretty reputable names. Since we know you only want to spend your weekend streaming the best of the best, we broke down each of the five "grown-up" pilots with our recommendations. You can watch all the pilots on Amazon. “The After” (Chris says ...) What’s it about? A group of mysteriously-linked strangers who are thrown together while trying to figure out why the world has suddenly gone all post-apocalyptic. Who’s in it? Some unfamiliar faces, Jamie Kennedy (for all you “Scream” fans), Sharon Lawrence (“NYPD Blue”) and a cameo from Smith from “Sex and the City” (who hopefully will return if the series is picked up). Sho...

'X-Files' Creator Chris Carter's New Show 'The After': I Want More (But Not Too Much)
Huffington Post - about 4 years
I watch a lot of TV pilots, and here's the biggest question I had after watching "The After," a new Amazon show from "X-Files" creator Chris Carter. Why didn't a cable or broadcast network make this show? It's certainly better than a lot of the one-hour programs the broadcast networks have debuted in the last year or two, and the first hour of Carter's new project as good as or better than a fair number of cable pilots. Here's the catch: So far, the first hour is all we get. The pilot for "The After," which is about 54 minutes long, was made available today by Amazon along with nine other pilots (five are kids' shows, the rest are a mix of comedy and drama). I've also seen another of today's crop, the half-hour show "Transparent," which is from veteran TV writer Jill Soloway. It's very different from "The After" -- it's more low-key, bittersweet and mildly comedic -- but it's also worth a look. Of all the Amazon pilots I've seen, in this year's crop or in a previous batch, ...

Jonathan Kim: The World's Best and Longest-Running Comedy Open Mic Just Closed
Huffington Post - over 4 years
For most people, stand up comedy seems like a kind of magical art, a talent you need to be born with. But that's not true. No matter how naturally gifted a comic might be, being funny for an audience takes an enormous amount of often brutal practice at comedy open mics. As Robert Yasumura, the scathingly honest and hilarious co-host of Los Angeles' (and probably the world's) best and longest-running comedy open mic, once said, open mics are where the comedy sausage is made. On July 23, 2013, the Open Mic of Love, which has fostered comedic talent in Los Angeles for a staggering twenty years, came to an end. Its current home near the UCLA campus in an upstairs side room of the Westwood Brewing Company was sold to a seafood restaurant chain. That seemed like as good of an opportunity as any for Vance Sanders, the beloved creator and host of the Open Mic of Love for all these twenty years, to start his well-earned retirement from hosting. "I feel good," Vance t...

WATCH: Every Single Thing Goes Wrong On Live NYE Broadcast
Huffington Post - about 5 years
Nobody can blame KDOC, an independent TV station based out of Orange County that broadcasts in Los Angeles, for wanting to do a live New Year's Eve show. What they can be blamed for, however, is the astounding level of technical incompetence that happened while they were live on the air. And it was beautiful. The clip above shows a montage of "highlights," filled with abrupt cuts, throwing to nobody, unintentionally live microphones, inability to know/care if it was midnight and pretty much every other error that could have made it live on the air. It was like Tim & Eric -- or maybe a junior high school AV club -- was hired to produce an extravagant party with Jamie Kennedy, Macy Gray and Shannon Elizabeth as the star attractions (in case you were wondering if this was set up for success). Warning, the clip includes some NSFW language, courtesy Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and also from errant producers who didn't know their mics were live. Yeah, it was that kind of nig...

EnRoute Magazine's Best New Restaurant List For Canada In 2012
Huffington Post - over 5 years
Chances are, you'll be heading out to a restaurant this week. Despite the cooling weather — including, yes, snowstorms in October — restaurants are Canadians' preferred places to socialize, according to a Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association study. But as winter sets in for real, we imagine it will become a little harder to drag yourself out of the house, so we're relieved EnRoute magazine has given Canadians 10 reasons why they must do so. Well, Canadians who live in Calgary, Montreal and Toronto, anyway. For the 11th year running, Air Canada's in-flight magazine has put together a list of Canada's top 10 restaurants of the past year in their November issue, and this time, the picks come just from those three cities. While this will inevitably stir up the critics on both the east and west coasts (and runs counter to Maclean's recently published list, which featured eight spots from B.C. and nine from Atlantic Canada), the publication makes no bones about th...

WATCH: 'Gathering Of The Juggalos' Announces Lineup, More
Huffington Post - over 5 years
With just more than three weeks to go before their thirteenth annual event, "Gathering of the Juggalos" organizers late last week released a 23-minute video promoting their upcoming festival and its full lineup. The video frames the festival as a secure escape from a world "over taken [sic] by mindless zombies unable to develop their own opinion of anything:" "Harbored deep within the woods of Cave In Rock, Illinois, are living, breathing free thinkers [sic] who have constructed a compound of freshness for their kind to not only survive within but also to flourish." That "compound" consists of the Aug. 8-12 festival, which this year features, in addition to the Insane Clown Posse and a smattering of Psychopathic Records acts of course, Cheech and Chong, Raekwon, DMX, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, Master P, Biz Markie, Danny Brown, Three 6 Mafia, a reunion of The Geto Boys, Fear Factory, comedian Jamie Kennedy and the wrestler Ric Flair. Jennifer Love Hewitt Apologizes For Calling Adam Levine Hot
The Inquisitor - almost 6 years
Jennifer Love Hewitt, the 33-year-old American actress from such movies as The Client List (for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award), has made quite clear her attraction to Adam Levine, the lead vocalist of the popular band Maroon 5, since his breakup with former girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna a few days ago. While Levin has yet to approach Hewitt, she seems to have grown embarrassed over the whole fiasco as she was quoted having said: “I feel like I should write him an apology letter on Twitter or something just to say I’m so sorry… I wasn’t thinking that it was gonna turn into this whole thing and I feel bad. [I was hoping that he would have said] thanks for at least thinking that he’s hot.” Being as it’s only been a matter of days since Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine parted ways with Annye Vyalitsyna, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to find that Levine has not seized the opportunity to become romantically involved with Jennifer Hewitt.
