Why mess with a classic? (Seriously, though: Why?) Early promos did little to dispel the fear that the remake was a hot mess waiting to happen; reviews that came in right before the special’s airtime didn’t help, either.  The new version wasn’t totally reprehensible — Sarah Hyland, Debra Messing and Nicole Scherzinger are all charming, and J. Quinton Johnson...

The year was 1987. “Platoon” took home the award for Best Picture, while Paul Newman and Marlee Matlin won the night’s top acting honors for their work in the films “The Color of Money” and “Children of a Lesser God,” respectively.  The red carpet was as star-studded as you’d imagine. 'Dirty Dancing' Was A Safe-Abortion Champion Wrapped In A Rom-Com Bow
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Who knew, when we were watching and re-watching “Dirty Dancing” decades ago in our teenage years that it would be the one slyly feminist VHS in our collection to stand the test of time? Perhaps screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein had an inkling. “As my husband says, if I’m not happy about [the film’s longevity], I better make films on the moon,” she told The Huffington Post over the phone of the film’s 30th anniversary. It’s also one of the few films we can point to when looking for honest depictions of abortion on the big screen, through the character of Penny, a dancer who must miss a performance in order to undergo a back-alley procedure in 1963, a decade before Roe v. Wade. It’s this event that serves as the catalyst for the rest of the plot: The wide-eyed resort guest Baby (Jennifer Grey) offers to take Penny’s place and learn a routine wit...

On my way to #WomensMarchLA #nobodyputspussyinacorner A photo posted by Jennifer Grey (@jennifer_grey) on Jan 21, 2017 at 9:44am PST In these dark times, we need to hold onto the little moments of joy. And the t-shirt that actress Jennifer Grey, arguably best known for her starring role in “Dirty Dancing,” wore to the LA Women’s March is nothing short of pure joy. Anyone who has seen the movie “Dirty Dancing” knows the iconic line, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Grey, who plays Baby in the 1987 film, put a twist on the line and made a shirt that read, “Nobody puts pussy in a corner.” Pure.
