2016 NFL Contenders And Pretenders
Huffington Post - about 2 years
The 2016 NFL season has yet to kick off, which means it’s the perfect time to decide which preseason darlings are for real, and which are simply hype trains heading nowhere. There’s buzz around Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, and chatter regarding a much healthier Green Bay offense. And can we really trust Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton during crunch time, considering their suspect playoff history?  Let the fun begin.  "This is the biggest of the bold!" @Schultz_Report on predicting @RGIII being the comeback player of the year — GMFB (@gmfb) August 23, 2016 To read my five predictions for this season, click here. Bengals have formidable backfield with Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill
Houston Chronicle - almost 3 years
The Cincinnati Bengals have built a strong running back tandem that combines the speed of Giovani Bernard and the power of Jeremy Hill. They’ve combined for 855 rushing yards and seven touchdown runs. “No question, you have to know when they’re in the game because it’s a little bit different, both different playing styles, Hill being a little bit bigger, a little bit more of a downhill runner, Bernard being more of a fast, quick guy,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “Sometimes, they’re in the game at the same time, which is very difficult. It’s a big challenge. Offensively, they have a lot of weapons.” Bernard has rushed for 511 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. He’s also caught 21 passes for 155 yards. Hill has rushed for 344 yards and five touchdowns. Stopping the run ranks high on the Texans’ agenda heading into Monday night’s game against the Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. “No doubt, especially with these two backs, we want to make teams as one-di...

Photos: Record number of underclassmen to enter 2014 NFL draft
Houston Chronicle - over 4 years
Today is the deadline for draft-eligible underclassmen to declare for early entry into May’s NFL draft. In order to be draft eligible, a player must be at least three years removed from high school. Unofficially, 94 players have decided to forego their remaining college eligibility for a shot at the pros. That figure would smash last year’s record of 73 underclassmen who declared for the 2013 draft. The NFL will release the official list on Sunday. Highlighted by Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, four underclassmen from Texas schools have decided to jump into the draft pool: Jace Amaro (Texas Tech), Mike Evans (A&M) and Lache Seastrunk (Baylor). See who else is leaving college early. Early draft entrants (listed alphabetically) Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech George Atkinson III, RB, Notre Dame Dion Bailey, S, USC Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State Kapri Bibbs, RB, Colorado State Russell Bodine, C, N...

Six questions each about A&M and LSU
Houston Chronicle - almost 5 years
BATON ROUGE, La. — Ross Dellenger of the Baton Rouge Advocate asked me to answer six questions about Texas A&M heading into today’s game. I gladly obliged, and Ross responded in kind. Here are the answers: Dellenger answers Zwerneman’s questions: 1. After so much success last year, how does LSU intend to slow Manziel this time around? Break his leg. Nah, I kid. But, really, LSU is in some trouble here. All three defensive units – the line, secondary and linebackers – have struggled to make explosive, game-changing plays. Their plan is easier written than orchestrated. They want to contain Manziel with a patient pass rush, not bull rushing vertically, but staying in front of the QB and collapsing the pocket. At linebacker, there’s sure to be a Manziel spy. And in the secondary, don’t be surprised to see one or two more DBs as LSU uses its 3-2-6 Mustang package to match A&M’s speed. 2. A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder said the LSU offense doesn’t rely on tricker...
